Team Leader

The post holder will be required to provide comprehensive, professional, operational, effective leadership and managerial support to the unit whilst being supported by the Matron.

The Team Leader will have 24‑hour operational responsibility and accountability for the provision and management of high quality nursing care; and for the treatment of service users within the inpatient service area. The post holder will clinically lead, develop the service and nursing team, support care delivery, and work with service users and staff to ensure the provision of practices that respond effectively to both individual and service need. The post holder will provide effective clinical leadership to ensure all nursing staff receive the appropriate supervision and support in conjunction with an agreed professional development plan.


Main duties of the job

The Team Leader role is pivotal in delivering safe, effective and service excellence within the team dynamic.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience working as a Charge Nurse or in a similar role – who can join us to deliver safe and effective inpatient services that aim to embrace recovery by working in partnership with service users and their carers.

We would like to hear from you if you are interested to gain experience in managing a community rehabilitation unit. Our services aim to provide a high standard of treatment and care in a safe and therapeutic setting for service users at a vulnerable stage of their illness.

Furthermore, the post holder will be responsible for establishing and maintaining team systems and processes for effective operation of the team, and to ensure compliance with the achievement of Key Performance Indicators.

The successful candidate must display a considerable degree of initiative, possess mature judgement and maintain a calm, friendly and efficient manner when dealing with service users, their relatives, colleagues and visitors.

Job responsibilities

To ensure effective nursing assessment and provision of a high standard of care within the inpatient service area.

* To act as a positive clinical lead and role model within the inpatient service area
* To manage and develop the inpatient service team who can meet the changing needs of the service user
* To set and monitor care standards for the inpatient service area
* To ensure the day to day running of the service area is maintained to a high standard

The post holder will be required to work independently using initiative, and applying a high degree of confidentiality to all of their work. They must be able to demonstrate good interpersonal and communication skills, manage competing demands and organise their own work in meeting deadlines in order for the smooth running of the ward area. Car driver essential, or access to a car (unless you have a disability as defined by the Disability Discrimination Act 2010).


Person Specification


KNOWLEDGE, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

* RNMH/RNLD/RMN/BSc.OT/Social Worker or health related qualification
* Educated to Degree level in a healthcare related subject
* Degree with experience of post graduate level study or the equivalent experience
* ENB 998/Mentorship or equivalent Practice Placement Educator training
* Evidence of management or leadership development
* NMC/HCPC/other bodies
* Qualification in management
* Teaching/training experience.


AREAS OF EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE

* Management of staff in a multiprofessional setting
* Minimum of three years post registration experience, two of which must be as a band 6
* Detailed awareness of issues in inpatient service areas – legislation, DoH guidance, NPSA, PEAT, CQC, NHSLA, Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act including an understanding of standards
* Ability to provide clinical supervision, appraisal, preceptorship and staff support methods
* Good understanding of the Recovery Model and co‑production
* Knowledge in current developments in mental health or learning disabilities care
* Experience of working in other care settings


COMMUNICATION SKILLS

* Recognises and reflects on barriers to effective communication, modifying communication in response
* Keeps accurate and complete records and communication consistent with legislation, policies and procedures
* Demonstrate good verbal training and presentation skills
* Ability to chair meetings effectively


ANALYTICAL SKILLS

* Flexible and responsive approach to care
* Knowledge and ability to positively manage change
* Ability to identify and manage changes to clinical risks
* Ability to produce reports e.g. related to complaints, investigations, SIs, audits etc
* Able to manage a budget effectively

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
