About the School and Provision

A well-established and inclusive primary school in North London is seeking a highly committed and compassionate ARP Teaching Assistant to join their Additionally Resourced Provision (ARP). The ARP supports pupils with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) who require a more structured, specialist learning environment alongside opportunities for inclusion within mainstream classes.

The provision primarily supports pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), speech and language needs, sensory processing difficulties, and associated social, emotional, and behavioural challenges. The school places a strong emphasis on personalised learning, emotional wellbeing, and the development of independence, ensuring that every pupil is supported to achieve their full potential.

The successful ARP Teaching Assistant will become part of a skilled and supportive SEN team, working closely with teachers, therapists, and external professionals to deliver high-quality support tailored to each pupil’s individual needs.

About the Role

This is a demanding yet extremely rewarding role that requires patience, flexibility, and a deep commitment to inclusive education. As an ARP Teaching Assistant, you will work both within the ARP setting and, where appropriate, alongside pupils in mainstream classrooms to support access to learning and social integration.

You will provide one-to-one and small group support, assist with differentiated learning activities, and support pupils with communication, emotional regulation, and sensory needs. Some pupils may require assistance with personal care, hygiene routines, or medical needs, and candidates must be comfortable supporting these aspects with dignity and care.

Key Responsibilities

Key responsibilities of the ARP Teaching Assistant role include:

* Providing consistent one-to-one support for pupils with EHCPs

* Supporting small group learning activities within the ARP

* Assisting pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition and sensory processing needs

* Supporting communication using visual aids, structured routines, and alternative communication methods

* Implementing strategies recommended by speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, and educational psychologists

* Supporting emotional regulation and behaviour using positive, trauma-informed approaches

* Assisting pupils during transitions between ARP and mainstream classrooms

* Supporting personal care, toileting, feeding, or medical needs where required

* Monitoring progress and contributing to EHCP reviews and meetings

* Maintaining accurate records and observations

* Creating a calm, structured, and nurturing learning environment

* Supporting safeguarding, health, and safety procedures at all times

The Ideal Candidate

The school is seeking an ARP Teaching Assistant who demonstrates:

* Previous experience working with children with SEN, particularly ASD

* A strong understanding of EHCPs and personalised learning

* Patience, empathy, and emotional resilience

* The ability to remain calm and supportive in challenging situations

* Strong communication and teamwork skills

* A proactive and flexible approach to supporting pupils

Experience in specialist provisions, SEN schools, ARPs, or care/support settings is highly desirable. However, candidates with relevant transferable experience and a strong commitment to SEN education are also encouraged to apply.

Training, Support & Development

The school offers comprehensive training and professional development opportunities, including:

* Autism awareness and ASC-specific strategies

* Sensory integration and regulation approaches

* Positive behaviour support and de-escalation techniques

* Safeguarding and child protection training

* Ongoing SEN-focused CPD

Staff wellbeing is prioritised, and ARP staff are supported through regular supervision, planning time, and leadership guidance.

Safeguarding Statement

The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. All appointments are subject to enhanced DBS checks, satisfactory references, and safeguarding training.

Why Apply?

* Work in a well-resourced and supportive ARP

* Make a meaningful difference in pupils’ lives

* Long-term, stable role with excellent support

* Specialist SEN training and career development

* Inclusive, values-driven school environment
