We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Paediatric Matron (Band 8a) to join our dedicated leadership team. This role requires an exceptional nurse leader to drive high-quality, safe, compassionate care across our paediatric services.
As Matron, you will provide visible clinical leadership, support staff development, and ensure the delivery of outstanding patient and family‑centred care. You will play a key role in quality improvement, governance and operational management within a fast‑paced and rewarding environment.
Main duties of the job
* Provide visible and accessible leadership across clinical areas
* Ensure delivery of safe, effective and compassionate care
* Promote high standards of safeguarding practice
* Act as patient advocate where required
* Lead improvement in patient experience and outcomes
* Ensure compliance with professional and regulatory standards
* Operational management
* Lead workforce planning and safe staffing
* Support budgetary and resource management
* Ensure effective management of incidents, complaints and risks
* Maintain high standards of cleanliness, safety and governance
* Lead transformation and service improvement projects

Person specification
Education
* Registered Nurse (Child)
* Educated to postgraduate diploma/degree level or equivalent experience
* Management/Leadership certificate or equivalent experience
* Level 3 Safeguarding Training
* Leadership or Management qualification (or working towards this qualification)
Experience
* Significant experience at Band 7 within paediatric services
* Excellent managerial, leadership and organisational skills
* Experience leading and motivating a multi‑professional team
* Excellent teaching, training and preceptorship skills
* Experience and knowledge of quality, standard setting and audit
* Evidence in Quality Improvement/Project Management
Skills
* Ability to lead a large team
* Ability to manage change, both personally and as a facilitator
* Excellent relevant paediatric clinical skills
* Previous experience of research and audit
* Strong understanding of governance, risk and safeguarding
* Capable of working strategically (business planning, service improvements, workforce planning)
