Job Title: Head of Risk
Job Description
As the Head of Risk, you will lead and mentor an international team of 10-15 staff, focusing on risk data ingestion, transformation, and reporting. You will provide subject matter expertise in database and reporting technology, collaborating with risk stakeholders such as Market Risk, Credit Risk, and Enterprise Risk Managers to understand business requirements and translate them into effective solutions.
Responsibilities
* Lead and mentor an international team focused on risk data ingestion, transformation, and reporting.
* Provide subject matter expertise in database and reporting technology.
* Collaborate with Risk stakeholders to understand business requirements and translate them into solutions.
* Ensure effective risk management functions, including market risk, credit risk, and regulatory compliance.
* Utilise strong proficiency in SQL for advanced concepts and techniques.
* Work with large-scale, multi-terabyte data warehouses, performing performance tuning, query optimisation, and execution plan analysis.
* Apply advanced knowledge of data warehousing principles, dimensional modelling, and star schema design.
* Hands-on experience with SQL Server and Snowflake, understanding their architecture, features, and best practices.
* Familiarity with data integration tools (SSIS, ADF) and techniques (ELT).
* Utilise reporting and analytical tools such as SSAS, SSRS, or Power BI.
* Maintain application ownership including audit processes, data governance, and cyber security best practices.
* Build and maintain relationships with senior stakeholders.
* Demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
Essential Skills
* Strong proficiency in SQL with in-depth understanding of advanced concepts including joins, aggregations, CTEs, and window functions.
* Background in risk management functions, including market risk, credit risk, and regulatory compliance.
* Understanding of risk measures like VAR, CE/PE, and PFE.
* Experience with large-scale data warehouses, performance tuning, query optimisation, and execution plan analysis.
* Advanced knowledge of data warehousing principles, dimensional modelling, and star schema design.
* Hands-on experience with SQL Server and Snowflake.
* Familiarity with data integration tools (SSIS, ADF) and techniques (ELT).
* Experience working with risk systems within a financial institution.
* Track record of application ownership, including audit processes, data governance, and cyber security best practices.
* Effective communication skills with the ability to build and maintain relationships with senior stakeholders.
* Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
