An exciting opportunity to join the Major Investigation department as a detective constable. The role is critical to the effective delivery of homicide, other death and major crime investigations across the Force.

Investigations in Staffordshire are a key strand in the delivery of our Policing Plan. We aim to focus on what matters to the people of Staffordshire through local policing, focusing on the victims, partnership working and caring for each other.

Specialist Crime Command is responsible for conducting homicide and major crime investigations within Staffordshire. Within the Major Investigation Department officers will be engaged on specific short, medium and long term reactive operations and activities including covert policing.

You will work alongside colleagues from different departments in the organisation but also key stakeholders and partners such as other Law Enforcement Agencies, the CPS, Forensic pathologists, Ambulance Services, Fire & Rescue Services, NHS and other expert witnesses from the private sectors along with the community itself.

The role of Detective Constable is crucial to ensure that we deliver a high quality of service to the public of Staffordshire in an effective and efficient manner. Investigating predominantly Homicide offences with a sound knowledge of the standards of investigations, CPIA including police powers and procedures.

Due to the nature of the role, there will be an expectation that the post holder attends forensic post mortems in support of homicide investigations.

The post holder will be an accredited PIP Level 2 investigator

The applicant will require a knowledge of Holmes – Home Office Large Major Enquiry System or work towards learning the system.

DC's need to be passionate about investigations and be flexible, willing to work outside core hours and on rest days at short notice. Although based at Staffordshire Police HQ they must be prepared to work at different locations inside and out of the force area.

Am I eligible?
