Job overview

We are seeking to appoint a Specialty Doctor to join our CAMHS South Core Community Mental Health Team based at the Oaklands Centre, in Selly Oak, South Birmingham.

You will deliver psychiatric assessment and treatment to young people aged 0-18 with mental ill health and neurodevelopmental conditions as well as provide a central role within the MDT.

Applications are welcome from individuals that have full registration with the GMC, have completed at least four years postgraduate training, at least two of which will be within a psychiatry training programme and have experience of working with people with complex mental disorders, neurodevelopment conditions, emotional trauma and emerging personality disorders.


Main duties of the job

On a day to day basis the Specialty Doctor will be part of the core community mental health service comprising of specialist and dedicated mental health processionals including Consultant Psychiatrist, senior mental health practitioners, Clinical Psychologist, Occupational Therapist and Psychotherapists. You will have a close working relationship on clinical matters with the MDT and provide important liaison with other doctors in primary and secondary care.

You will hold a caseload of patients (0-18 years) and review patents at frequency according to their clinical need and risks.

Person specification


Qualifications

* Recognised medical degree
* Full GMC registration with a licence to practice
* MRCPsych or equivalent
* Approved or eligible for approval under Section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act (1983)


Training

* Completed at least four years full time postgraduate training (or its equivalent gained on a part time or flexible basis), at least two of which will be within a psychiatry training programme.
* Commitment to personal programme of Continuing Professional Development
* Broad clinical training in psychiatry including both inpatient and community service


Experience

* At least two years experience of working in psychiatry, including working with people with complex mental disorders, neurodevelopmental conditions, emotional trauma and emerging personality disorders
* Experience of teaching and training at an undergraduate / postgraduate level
* Experience in supervising and training junior medical staff
* Experience service a multi-culture, multi-ethnic population
* Experience of providing psychological and/or social interventions
* Experience in managing duties under the MHAA, including assessing patients in place of safety detained under section 136


Research & Audit

* Commitment to clinical audit and quality improvement within multi-disciplinary team
* Completed clinically relevant audit projects


Personal skills

* Flexibility and adaptability to respond to changing service needs
* Able to work creatively within multi-disciplinary team
* Skills in working with individuals who are difficult to engage


Personal circumstances

* Able to travel across the community base area

Please note, if applicable for your role you will be required to cover the cost of your DBS certificate. This will be deducted from your salary over 3 months. You will also be required to sign up to the DBS Update Service before commencement with the Trust. The Trust will reimburse this. You will be contractually obliged to maintain your subscription.

All successful applicants will be required to complete the Trust’s induction programme. The Fundamental (Statutory and Mandatory) training will be in an e-learning format. You will be required to complete training modules online (approx. 9-14 hours depending on post) by the end of your second week with us.

Relocation expenses may be reimbursed subject to eligibility. The policy provides for reimbursement up to £8,000.
