Job Summary:The Heavy Diesel Mechanic is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining heavy-duty diesel engines and related systems in a variety of vehicles and equipment, ensuring safe and efficient operation.Hourly rate will be between $34.00-$40.00ph depending on qualifications/experience.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
* Perform routine maintenance, inspections, and repairs on heavy-duty diesel engines and vehicles, including trucks.
* Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and electronic issues in diesel engines and systems, utilizing diagnostic tools and software.
* Replace or repair worn or damaged parts, including engines, transmissions, steering, braking systems, and more.
* Perform preventative maintenance on vehicles and equipment, following established schedules and procedures.
* Maintain accurate records of work performed, parts used, and time spent on repairs.
* Communicate effectively with supervisors, coworkers, providing updates on repair progress and addressing concerns.
* Work safely and follow all safety protocols and procedures, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
* Follow safety procedures and regulations when working with heavy equipment and hazardous materials.
* Keep the work area clean, organized, and free of hazards.
* Maintain a strong knowledge of diesel engine systems, repair procedures, and industry best practices.
Qualifications/Experience:
* 3 years of experience and A New Zealand National Certificate in Automotive Heavy Engineering Level 4 (or equivalent)
* Knowledge of diesel engine systems, including fuel systems, ignition systems, and related components.
* Ability to use diagnostic tools and software to troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and electronic issues.
* Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to perform repairs and maintenance on heavy-duty diesel engines and vehicles.
* Proficiency with hand and power tools, including welding and fabrication tools.
* Ability to read and interpret schematics and technical manuals.
* Excellent communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
* Commitment to safety and quality.
* You will have a current and valid NZ Driver's License including HT4
Physical Requirements:
* Ability to lift and carry heavy objects.
* Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
* Ability to bend, kneel, and reach.
* Ability to work in a variety of environments, including outdoors and in enclosed spaces.
About you
* You will have a relevant Level 4 qualification or have at least 3 years proven experience working as a Heavy Vehicle Technician
* You take pride in quality workmanship and doing things right.
* You will have a current NZ Driver's License including HT4
* A forklift licence would be highly desirable
* Ability to work well within a team and under pressure
* Strong organisational and time management skills
