Senior Associate – Sustainability Consultant

About the Role
You will be part of our Sustainability Group, contributing to high‑profile projects and influencing industry best practice.
Responsibilities
* Take ownership and deliver large‑scale projects with industry‑leading clients – experience in London and Bristol markets preferred.
* Monitor project expenditure and report to the team leader.
* Contribute technical knowledge across the firm.
* Communicate transparently at all levels.
* Identify new business opportunities and negotiate service scope and fee levels.
* Participate in work‑winning initiatives and senior engagement in recognised industry organisations.
* Ensure design objectives are achieved.
* Manage and motivate colleagues within the HL team.
* Report cost and resource requirements regularly.
* Develop junior team members.
* Delegate, manage and review work of others.
* Support production of fee proposals and invoicing.
* Lead workshops with the client and design team, communicating information clearly.
* Undertake modelling and analysis, including embodied carbon, circular economy opportunities, building performance simulation, operational energy use, energy generation, overheating.
* Develop sustainability and energy strategies.
* Lead environmental assessments (BREEAM, WELL, HQM, etc.) from early design stages through to completion.
* Support the drive towards net‑zero whole‑life carbon.
* Work with the Sustainability Group on research and development initiatives.
* Influence industry guidance through research and publications.

* BREEAM and HQM assessments
* Bespoke sustainability charters
* Production of planning documents including sustainability statements, energy statements, whole‑life carbon reports and circular economy statements

* NABERS UK modelling
* In‑use energy modelling and assessment
* Dynamic modelling for thermal comfort assessments and overheating risk assessments
* Health and wellbeing strategies and certification
* Net‑zero carbon strategies and embodied carbon calculations
To Be Successful In This Role You’ll Need
* Experience within sustainability consultancy looking for a new challenge.
* Recognition in the industry, preferably Chartered status.
* Passion for creating sustainable solutions.
* Confidence in leading sustainability workshops.
* Enthusiasm for working in a dynamic team within a progressive firm.
* Strong communication skills.
* Demonstrable experience working with clients/contractors/architects in a design‑oriented role.
* Excellent organisational and planning skills for managing multiple projects.
* Self‑awareness, open mind, and generosity.
* Experience supporting others’ development.
* Ability to build client and professional relationships for business growth.
* Commitment to personal and continuing professional development.
* Active contribution to the wider engineering and construction industry.
