Overview
A unique opportunity to spearhead the South London NIHR Commercial Research Delivery Centre (CRDC) with Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Trust (GSTT) as the hub and Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust (LGT) and Oxleas NHS Trust as the spokes. The CRDC is funded by the £400M investment from industry into the Voluntary Scheme for Branded Medicines Pricing, Access and Growth (VPAG), a five‑year agreement (2024–2028) to cap branded medicine expenditure and ensure patient access to new treatments.
Strategic and Centre Management
* Play an integral role in the development, implementation and review of the South London NIHR CRDC strategy in partnership with the CRDC director and deputy directors.
* Act as an ambassador for the South London CRDC locally (GSTT, Oxleas, LGT) and nationally through the CRDC network and related meetings and events.
* Oversee commercial research delivery at the hub site at Guys Hospital, working closely with research teams and infrastructure to deliver a financially sustainable portfolio.
* Provide operational oversight (infrastructure, quality management, user and stakeholder management) of the late‑phase commercial trial facility and CRDC hub in collaboration with other R&D trial delivery teams.
* Support research leadership and management at LGT and Oxleas in developing the capability and capacity to deliver a growing portfolio of commercial research.
Business Planning and Budget Management
* Lead the development of a robust financial plan, income generation and cost recovery system for the CRDC hub and support the same at the spoke sites.
* Manage the CRDC hub and spoke budgets, ensuring income capture, adherence to agreed budget plans, identifying savings and cost reductions, and coordinating adjustments with relevant financial analysts.
* Define and develop the infrastructure required to deliver the portfolio of studies, working with other RDMs within the LCRN, the LCRN Chief Operating Officer, NHS service providers and the NIHR CRN National Coordinating Centre.
* Develop and maintain close working relationships with the KHP Clinical Trials Office to implement processes for costing trials using NCVR, capacity and capability review and green‑lighting of commercial clinical trials at the spokes.
Trial Portfolio Delivery
* Ensure resources are in place for the local delivery of portfolio studies, collaborating with CRN and other colleagues.
* Develop key performance indicators and metrics to ensure accurate reporting to the CRDC Directors, GSTT R&D, CRDC partner research leadership, executive management and the NIHR.
* Compile reporting and performance documents as required by the NIHR for the CRDC award.
* Oversee and manage all aspects of the CRDC portfolio, focusing on time‑to‑target delivery of commercial research studies.
* Support negotiation and advise spoke sites of trial requirements.
Staff Management and Leadership
* Act as line manager for the Business Development Manager, ensuring supervision, professional and personal development through effective appraisals.
Additional Information
The post holder will also embed best practice management and delivery of commercial research into the CRDC at LGT and Oxleas spokes, supporting the existing and dedicated CRDC staff in delivering a growing portfolio of commercial research. The role requires regular travel to multiple clinical sites across South London, primarily to GSTT, LGT and Oxleas, with the post holder either based at the main GSTT hub or at the spokes as required.
