Specialist Psychiatrist for Torbay Crisis Resolution and HTT
Join Devon Partnership NHS Trust as a Specialist Psychiatrist in the Torbay HTT – South Devon. This fixed‑term 24‑month role provides senior medical leadership and supports an integrated, 24/7 community care service. The position is based at Haytor Unit, Torbay Hospital, with a flexible working pattern (full‑time, part‑time, and flexible arrangements available).
Salary: £100,870 to £111,441 per year. Reference number: C9369-25-0965.
Responsibilities:
* Provide senior medical leadership to the Torbay HTT.
* Conduct urgent assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of patients managed by HTT and allied clinical services.
* Work within a multidisciplinary team, offering support to patients and families/carers as needed.
* Ensure care is delivered within local, national, and legislative frameworks.
Essential Qualifications:
* MB BS or equivalent.
* GMC registration.
Desirable Qualifications:
* Membership or Affiliateship of the Royal College of Psychiatrists or equivalent.
* Approval under Section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act 1983.
Essential Experience:
* Minimum of 12 years medical work (aggregate or continuous) from primary qualification, with at least six years in a relevant specialty at specialist doctor or SAS grades.
* Meet the specialist grade generic capabilities framework.
Desirable Experience:
* Senior level psychiatry experience.
* Experience of Home Treatment or equivalent.
* Experience delivering supervision of non‑medical prescribers.
Essential Clinical Skills & Knowledge:
* Excellent clinical skills in interviewing and assessment of patients.
* Ability to manage crises, potential violence, and emergencies independently.
* Working knowledge of the Mental Health Act 1983 and other relevant legislation.
* Strong clinical risk management, evidence‑based strategies, and documentation skills.
Desirable Clinical Skills & Knowledge:
* CPR training.
* Application of psychological models to practice.
* Understanding of NHS organisational arrangements, including social care.
Research:
* Desire to maintain up‑to‑date clinical knowledge; enthusiasm to contribute to on‑site research; published peer‑reviewed articles.
* IT skills.
Personal Skills / Professional Attributes:
* Clear communication, flexible, punctual, honest, organised.
* Support for CPD; ability to manage own learning.
* Ability to operate independently and travel within region.
Clinical Governance:
* Commitment to clinical governance programmes.
* Knowledge of audit and user/carer involvement.
