Are you a seasoned fire safety professional ready for a challenging and rewarding role in operational management?
We are seeking a highly competent and proactive Safety Manager to lead and develop our dedicated fire safety team on a crucial operational site. This is an excellent temp-to-perm opportunity for a candidate who can immediately deliver high standards and demonstrates long-term commitment. This is a large residential development in East London with a family oriented team culture
The Role
Reporting to the Head of Security you will be responsible for the overall strategic and operational management of fire safety across the site. Your primary focus will be managing, mentoring, and developing the fire safety team, which includes Fire Marshal Supervisors and Fire Marshals. You will work closely with both the the Health and Safety Manager and Security Manager to ensure delivery is met.
? Key Responsibilities:
Team Leadership: Oversee the day-to-day deployment, performance, and development of the Fire Marshal and Fire Marshal Supervisor teams.
Safety Compliance: Ensure the site's fire safety procedures, risk assessments, and emergency plans are rigorously implemented and consistently meet all statutory and company requirements.
Training & Mentoring: Design and deliver essential ongoing fire safety training, drills, and briefings for the safety teams and general staff.
Conduct regular shift briefings, patrol audits and spot checks to ensure compliance
Auditing & Inspection: Conduct regular fire safety audits, inspections, and monitoring to proactively identify and mitigate hazards.
Incident Management: Lead the response, investigation, and reporting of fire-related incidents, ensuring accurate documentation and corrective actions are implemented.
Liaison: Act as the primary point of contact for external bodies, including the Fire Service, during inspections or incidents.
Documentation: Maintain comprehensive records of all inspections, training, equipment maintenance, and remedial actions.
? About You
Qualifications: Must possess a recognised fire safety qualification (e.g., NEBOSH Fire Safety and Risk Management or equivalent) and proven experience managing a team.
Fire Marshal/Warden certification
Leadership Experience: Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, and manage supervisory and operational teams effectively.
Technical Knowledge: Deep, up-to-date understanding of UK fire safety legislation, best practices, and relevant British Standards.
Communication: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the confidence to deliver training and report to senior management.
Proactive Approach: A strong focus on proactive hazard identification, prevention, and continuous improvement.
? The Offer
Contract: Initial 3-4 week temporary contract with intent to offer a fixed term contract lasting 1 year. There may be scope to extend.
Rate/Salary: Competitive hourly rate during the temporary phase, leading to an attractive permanent salary package of £42,000-£48,000
