The Urban Driver Apprenticeship is a 15-month programme designed to train individuals in all aspects of professional driving, culminating in obtaining a Category C1 (7.5t) Licence. The programme aims to transition apprentices into full-time 7.5t Driver positions within DX upon completion.
Responsibilities include both driving and non-driving duties such as office work, acting as a driver's mate, and warehousing during training.
Apprentices will undertake comprehensive training to build knowledge, skills, and behaviors relevant to the role. As part of the programme, apprentices will also obtain CPC licences, which are legally required to operate LGV vehicles.
Key Tasks/Areas of Responsibility
1. Represent DX professionally at all times.
2. Complete all tasks required during the apprenticeship training.
3. Drive vehicles safely and legally, ensuring compliance with all legal and company standards.
4. Perform daily vehicle checks, report defects immediately, and complete necessary paperwork.
5. Use DX scanning equipment to scan all products.
6. Load deliveries safely before departing the depot.
7. Adhere to DX procedures and policies consistently.
8. Manage routing to meet premium and timed delivery targets.
9. Maintain and use PPE and equipment properly.
10. Report delivery and road issues to the traffic office promptly.
11. Ensure deliveries are in excellent condition and handle customer issues politely and effectively.
12. Make collections as instructed within scheduled times.
Applicants must be 18 or over with at least 12 months of UK driving experience and hold a Category B licence. The application process includes checks, submitting information, and completing English and Numeracy assessments through our partner, GTG. Successful candidates will be invited for an interview.
