The role
SSE is seeking to appoint a Group Director of Enterprise Platforms, Infrastructure & Operations who will be accountable for the strategy, design, delivery and operation of digital foundations enabling safe, resilient operations across the SSE Group, amidst significant transformation and growth.
Reporting directly to the Group CIO, this director acts as a trusted partner to the Executive team and Business Units, balancing operational excellence with transformation and ensuring platforms are reliable, future‑ready and proportionate to the safety, regulatory and resilience expectations of the energy sector.
You will
* Own and steward the Group's enterprise compute, cloud and connectivity platforms, including public cloud (Azure, AWS), on‑premise data centres, enterprise networks and identity, along with end‑user services such as devices and Office 365.
* Lead global oversight and accountability for enterprise digital operations, ensuring reliable, secure and cost‑effective IT services through mature service management, SIAM and operational governance.
* Drive modernisation and simplification of the Group's digital foundations, adopting a cloud‑first, engineering‑led approach, embedding infrastructure‑as‑code and security‑as‑code, and automated compliance.
* Set and uphold enterprise standards for availability, resilience, crisis response and business continuity, in line with the Group's role as a critical electricity and renewable power provider.
* Own the commercial strategy for enterprise platforms and digital operations, including budget management, cost optimisation and long‑term investment planning, while executive‑sponsoring and owning critical partner relationships.
You have
* Enterprise‑scale leadership experience, deep technical credibility and a strong execution mindset, balancing operational excellence with transformation and innovation.
* Proven experience as a senior technology leader at Group or enterprise level, accountable for platforms, infrastructure and digital operations across complex organisations.
* Extensive experience across public cloud platforms (Azure and AWS), enterprise compute, data centres, networks, identity and end‑user services.
* Demonstrated ability to translate business and digital strategy into platform strategy, enabling faster delivery while maintaining resilience, security and regulatory compliance.
* A credible executive‑level leader capable of building trust and influencing Boards, Executives, regulators and senior stakeholders, with strong commercial insight and ownership of technology budgets, investment trade‑offs and long‑term cost‑to‑serve optimisation.
