Job Description
A Design Manager with a successful history of delivering the design elements of large-scale construction and infrastructure projects is sought after at London Gatwick Airport. If you have a proven track record of managing teams and delivering design for projects above £150m, this is a unique opportunity to join a dynamic team and make a significant impact.
The airport's current projects, which range from £50m to £350m, include the International Departure Lounge (IDL) in the North and South Terminals, valued at over £500m, as well as a £140m extension to Pier 6.
As a Design Manager (Major Projects) at London Gatwick, you'll be instrumental in leading the design of strategically important, major building projects, typically exceeding £150 million in value.
You'll have the opportunity to work on the full project lifecycle, ensuring designs meet project requirements and deliver value for money. You'll collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders up to board level and external design consultants, ensuring smooth project delivery, staying on track and within budget.
What is the role?
1. Reporting into the Programme Design Manager, you will own the end-to-end design process from project start to completion, including overseeing smaller projects.
2. Other duties include:
3. Developing project scopes that support business needs.
4. Finding innovative design solutions that meet project scopes, are deliverable, meet GAL engineering standards, and are cost-effective.
5. Developing clear and transparent design briefs for external consultants.
6. Managing and reviewing outputs from external design consultants to ensure quality, alignment with milestones, and governance.
7. Collaborating with the Asset Information Team and stakeholders to determine asset information requirements for design and construction.

* Experience in engineering design or design management, preferably in a live operational environment, with responsibility for safety-critical outcomes and infrastructure projects over £150m.
* Knowledge of design, construction techniques, technical requirements, and regulations, especially addressing constructability challenges in live settings.
* Experience leading multi-disciplinary teams.
* Degree or equivalent in architecture, engineering, or related fields.
