Scientist/Senior Scientist, Antibody AI/ML and Bioinformatics

The Antibody Discovery & Engineering group is a unit within the newly established Orion Biologics R&D UK Centre whose main responsibility is to discover and develop biologics for clinical use from early research into clinical development and launch. Orion Pharma is establishing a new Biologics Research & Development Centre in the vibrant biomedical ecosystem of Cambridge, UK. The Biologics R&D Centre represents a central piece in the long‑term vision of expansion into biologics modalities by Orion Pharma and is designed to accelerate the company's biologics research and development efforts. It will complement Orion's existing R&D efforts in Finland and will support innovative biologics such as multi‑specific antibodies, Antibody Drug Conjugates (ADC), and Chimeric Antigen Receptor T cells (CAR‑T). The company promotes a culture of honest interaction, work‑life balance, and motivation to achieve its mission of becoming a powerhouse of biologics discovery and development.

Responsibilities

* Development of AI/ML models to aid antibody candidate selection and support discovery and optimisation via engineering, extracting design principles and identifying trends in antibody behaviour.
* Analyse and interrogate antibody repertoires using a variety of tools and techniques.
* Support and optimise the integration of data generated by the various functional groups of the Biologics R&D Centre, along with external data sources, and assess antibody sequences.
* Contribute to the development of the next generation platform.
* Establish in silico screening pipelines for antibody libraries using AI/ML models and structure‑aware filters to prioritise lead candidates.
* Evaluate and deploy generative design approaches for antibody sequence optimisation.
* Collaborate cross‑functionally with protein sciences and discovery biology teams to integrate in silico and experimental design.

What We Offer

This opportunity is to create AI/ML and Bioinformatics capabilities within the Antibody Discovery and Engineering Department at our new location in Cambridge, UK; a unique leadership role to help establish and advance a novel technology while building a state‑of‑the‑art antibody discovery powerhouse within Orion Pharma iMeds/R&D. A highly innovative R&D pipeline, enthusiastic working environment, opportunities for professional growth, impact on future therapies, and an excellent working atmosphere based on appreciation, continuous development and mutual trust.

Expectations & Qualifications

Ph.D. or MSc. in molecular biology, biochemistry, immunology or a related subject with experience in bioinformatics and computational biology applied to antibody R&D and 5+ years of relevant industrial experience.

* A passion for the application of machine learning/deep learning to advance antibody discovery and engineering.
* Strong scripting and automation skills.
* Expertise working with antibody sequence and structure datasets.
* Experience in using antibody in silico tools for predicting antibody properties and guiding engineering campaigns.
* Familiarity with structural modelling tools and structural antibody engineering is preferred.
* Experience with bispecifics, multispecifics, Fc engineered or other antibody‑based modalities is a plus.
* Ability to create productive collaborations within the research & development team.
* Demonstrated ability to meet performance targets and project initiatives.
* Ability to work independently and collaboratively in multidisciplinary environments.
* Excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal, and analytical skills.
