Responsibilities
* Provide day‑to‑day logistical management of all surgical instruments used with the Trust, ensuring they are available for the operating theatres and contribute to the smooth and efficient running of services and quality patient care.
* Order new instruments and oversee repair and replacement to maintain availability and exceptional working order.
* Communicate daily with the Sterile Services Decontamination team to identify instruments needed as a priority or for next‑day use.
* Communicate daily with instrument coordinators in other hospital theatre areas to arrange transport of instruments between hospitals and their return after use.
* Ensure broken, blunt or defective surgical instruments are sent to specialist repair companies and, upon return, are placed back into circulation without delay.
* Receive "Loaned In" surgical instruments for specialist surgery and ensure they are sent to the Decontamination unit for cleaning, sterilisation and returned ready for use.
* Maintain records of instrument repairs and activity of both Trusts–owned and loan instrument use.
Schedule & Location
* Base: Aintree – required flexibility to work across all sites (RLH, B/G & Aintree) to cover staff leave.
* Shift pattern: one week 07:00‑15:00, following week 10:00‑18:00 (weekly alternating).
