Position
Consultant Paediatrician – Respiratory (RACH, Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital)
Overview
The post holder will join 3 other Consultants in Paediatric Respiratory Medicine at RACH and work within the North of Scotland Paediatric Respiratory Network. The successful appointee will contribute to an on‑call 1:10 rota and Consultant‑of‑the‑Week rota (approximately 5 weeks a year). RACH provides specialist inpatient and outpatient care across a wide range of paediatric specialties, including Medical Paediatrics, General Paediatric Surgery, Orthopaedic Surgery, and more. The department also manages an Accident & Emergency Department, a Paediatric Assessment Unit, a 30‑bed Medical Ward, a 4‑bed High Dependency Unit, and a Child Protection Suite.
Responsibilities
* Provide specialist paediatric respiratory care as part of the paediatric respiratory team.
* Participate in the on‑call 1:10 rota and Consultant‑of‑the‑Week rota.
* Contribute to the care of patients across RACH’s inpatient and outpatient services.
* Collaborate within the North of Scotland Paediatric Respiratory Network.
Qualifications
* Full registration with a licence to practise with the GMC is required.
* Evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT, or within 6 months of confirmed entry on the GMC Specialist Register from date of interview.
* CESR or Portfolio Pathway doctors eligible once specialist registration is awarded.
* International Recognised Specialist Qualification approved by GMC with confirmed entry on the GMC Specialist Register.
* Locum Consultant posts may be available for suitable candidates not listed on the GMC Specialist Register.
Benefits and Working Conditions
The Agenda for Change full‑time working week will be reduced from 37 to 36 hours per week (starting 1 April 2026). Part‑time hours will be reduced pro‑rata, with a corresponding increase in hourly rate so pay is not affected. The post is based at the Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital in Aberdeen, offering excellent transport links and a supportive working environment.
