Sonographer

We are seeking a highly motivated sonographer; consideration will be given to midwife sonographer, vascular scientist or trainee sonographer to work within our friendly ultrasound department, a forward‑thinking department committed to training, encouragement and personal development. 2 lead sonographers across the Trust support and help develop the ultrasound service.
We are a small, friendly department hoping to recruit a new member of staff to support our team.

Main duties of the job
You will be a flexible team player with excellent communication skills, able to work as part of a multidisciplinary team. You will be required to organise your workload according to demand, scanning inpatients, outpatients and GP referrals, and deliver a high quality of patient care to maintain an efficient and cost‑effective service.
The Ultrasound department operates 7 days a week. You will be expected to participate in the weekend and bank holiday rota and can contribute to extended days through flexible contracts.
Although based at Furness General Hospital, you will provide cover at all Trust sites as required.
About us
We operate from three main hospitals – Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal – and a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.
FGH and the RLI have a full range of General Hospital services, including Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various consultant‑led services.
WGH provides General Hospital services together with an Urgent Treatment Centre for non‑life‑threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.
All three main hospitals offer planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. Local outreach services and diagnostics are also provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.
Job responsibilities
In this role you will engage in a variety of ultrasound imaging modalities, collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams, and provide flexible coverage across multiple sites.
Person Specification
Education and qualifications
* Degree or equivalent in Radiography or other Science‑Based subject.
* CASE accredited Ultrasound PGD.
* Evidence of CPD/PDP.
* Involvement in research or audit.
* HCPC Registered.
* Masters level postgraduate Ultrasound training.
Experience
* Experience across different ultrasound imaging techniques.
Flexibility
* Able to work at any of the cross‑bay sites with notice.
Travel
* Able to travel independently to all cross‑bay sites.
