Overview
Senior Analytics Engineer role at Wagestream. Wagestream is on a mission to bring better financial wellbeing to frontline workers. Our platform enables workers to access fairer financial services and tools for managing earnings, savings, budgeting, and financial coaching within a single wellbeing app.
Wagestream is VC-backed and growing at scale, with a social charter that aims to improve financial health and reduce the cost of financial services for lower-income earners. You will join a team of 200+ people across Europe and the USA, building a category-leading fintech product aligned with our mission.
The Opportunity
Our Operations team sits at the heart of Wagestream, balancing financial crime prevention, customer support for vulnerable customers, and delivering a strong experience to millions of frontline workers. Ops currently lacks a dedicated senior data partner and relies on multiple data sources and spreadsheets, making unified performance views challenging.
As a Senior Analytics Engineer embedded in Ops, you will own the data foundations for Operations. You’ll model FinCrime activity, client interactions, and support service levels in dbt, implement testing and governance, and collaborate with Ops leadership and the Data team to design reporting that supports regulatory compliance and service improvement. This role is high-impact and highly visible, helping Wagestream scale while protecting customers and ensuring compliance.
The Team
You will be the primary data partner for Operations, working with Ops leadership and stakeholders across FinCrime, Support, Client Success, and TechOps. You will sit within the central Data function, reporting to the Head of Data, helping shape standards, improve data quality, and mentor others as the team grows. Our stack includes Snowflake, dbt, and Sigma.
We value pragmatic engineering, robust data models, and governance-first thinking. There are opportunities to contribute to forecasts and AI-driven insights alongside the Data team.
What will you be doing?
* Leading the design and build of Ops data models in dbt, in domains such as FinCrime, TechOps and Customer Support.
* Creating governed, auditable pipelines to replace fragile spreadsheets.
* Partnering with Ops leadership to define metrics and build strategic dashboards that inform compliance, client reporting, and operational strategy.
* Establishing testing, documentation, and governance practices across Ops data.
* Acting as the Ops data owner, shaping the roadmap for data improvements and surfacing risks/issues early.
* Contributing to central Data initiatives (quality, lineage, forecasting, AI insights).
Experience and Skills
Must-haves: Strong SQL and analytics engineering experience, ideally in a modern stack (dbt + cloud warehouse). Track record of owning data domains end-to-end (from ingestion/modeling to BI dashboards). Experience working with business leaders and translating ambiguous needs into structured data solutions. Strong focus on data quality, testing, and governance. Ability to balance quick delivery with building scalable foundations.
Can-be-learnts: Modern Data Platform practices – deepen expertise in dbt, data quality automation, and scalable governance as we evolve our central data stack. Applied AI – work with the Data team on forecasting and other AI/ML initiatives. Broader Operations domain knowledge – exposure to FinCrime, Vulnerable Customers, and Collections. Fintech industry expertise – learn how data underpins compliance, client reporting, and product adoption.

* Partnered with Ops leadership to define and document key KPIs, turning ambiguous needs into standardised metrics.
* Replaced a fragile spreadsheet-driven process with a resilient, governed pipeline, improving reliability and compliance.
Within 6 months you’ll have:
* Fully embedded as the Ops data owner, shaping the roadmap for data improvements and surfacing insights that influence strategy.
