Apply Now About the role Balfour Beatty has an exciting opportunity for an AREA BASED ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN to join our Rail team to work in the Kent and South East London (home depot, Hither Green). You will be performing services, maintenance, and repairs on our specialist fleet of diesel-powered rail mounted plant. Working throughout South East England as part of a close-knit team you will complete high quality engineering tasks. You will have a huge variation in your role day to day. You will encounter the following systems, diesel engines, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, electrical, PLC and electronic. The position is based on a 35-hour rostered week, it will include nights and weekend working, these are paid at an enhanced rate. Overtime in not guaranteed, but will occur regularly. What you'll be doing Service and repair specialist diesel rail plant (Tampers, TRAMMs & Cranes) Work on mechanical, hydraulics, pneumatics, electrics, PLC. Follow service schedule to rail standards Carry out repairs, ensuring quality is adhered to. Carry out fault finding, being right first time Be able to clearly communicate technical engineering information. Work Safely Undertake specific in house machine training Undertake essential track safety training (PTS). Work effectively on own and as part of a close-knit team. Huge variation day to day from heavy mechanical repairs and servicing to electronic fault finding. Who we're looking for Should have or equivalent to NVQ Level 2/3 plus relevant experience. Must have a full UK driving license Background in any of the following: Rail plant, rolling stock, plant, HGV, LGV, agricultural machines, armed forces, automotive. Full machine specific training will be given. Ability to work short and strict timescales and deadlines Health and safety awareness Must meet and maintain the appropriate medical standard for the position, including drugs and alcohol screening. Previous heavy engineering experience would be advantageous. Encountered all or some of the following systems: pneumatic, hydraulic, electric, PLC, mechanical systems, diesel engines. Be adaptable and versatile with engineering knowledge. Be prepared and excited to learn new skills and knowledge. Able to read engineering drawings and schematics. Basic IT skills Live in Kent/SE London area.
