About Boltz
Boltz is a public benefit company building the next generation of AI-powered molecular modeling tools to make biology programmable and accelerate drug discovery, while keeping frontier capabilities broadly accessible. Boltz-1, Boltz-2, and BoltzGen are open models trusted by 100,000+ scientists across biotech and academia, and used in programs at every Top 20 pharma as well as leading agrichemical and industrial research organizations. We deliver these capabilities through Boltz Lab, our platform for running our latest models and design agents as reliable, production-grade tools. Boltz Lab is designed around real chemistry and biology workflows, so teams can start from a target and a hypothesis and quickly generate, evaluate, and rank candidate molecules. We provide the compute, the scalable infrastructure, and the collaboration layer, so scientists can iterate faster and stay focused. You can read more about our mission, research and product vision on our manifesto.
About the role
As a Small Molecule Researcher, you will work closely with the broader Research team to advance our scientific interests, along with ML researchers and engineers by helping translate cutting-edge ML research into capabilities that are intuitive, trustworthy, and impactful for scientists in the lab. You will play an important role in the design and execution of experiments to validate the Boltz Lab's platform by bringing small molecule expertise to our growing Research team. You will work to ensure that the models and tools we build are validated and are applicable to real-world small molecule development projects.
You'll support our Research team through appropriate contributions on a selection of these areas:
1. Outsourcing management: Coordinating synthesis and screening campaigns with experimental validation of Boltz models via CRO partners in FFS and FTE relationships
2. Compound procurement and QC: Purchasing screening library compounds, managing make-on-demand workflows from virtual libraries, and ensuring integrity of test compounds through appropriate analytical oversight
3. Data management: Compound database and assay data curation to support ML model development
4. Target identification: Contributing to the identification of novel and high value biological targets for validation of Boltz models and agents
5. Scientific collaboration: Supporting the scientific collaborations and partnerships to ensure customer success
6. AI/ML collaboration: Working with the AI/ML team to interpret experimental data and ensure datasets meet model training requirements
Additional Responsibilities
7. Contributing to scientific publications, external communications and company events via promoting the Boltz ecosystem
8. Customer and collaborator engagement - This role has an external-facing component requiring professional, confident communication with the ability to form and maintain relationships with our partners
About you
Essentials:
9. PhD in Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, or a related field (No PhD, but relevant applied experience is also welcome)
10. Exceptional PhD graduates from drug discovery-focused programmes, or those with direct equivalent experience who can demonstrate readiness for this next step are encouraged to apply
11. 2-10 years post-doctoral experience applying your skills to small molecule drug discovery in academia or industry (agrochemical scientists are also encouraged to apply)
12. Experience with compound logistics, analytical QC, and working with CROs
13. Interpretation of biophysical and biochemical screening techniques (SPR, MST, enzymatic assays)
14. Well-organised, comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, and willing to contribute beyond your core remit
