Consultant Psychiatrist in Intellectual Disability/Forensic Psychiatry

The post holder will be a Consultant Forensic or Intellectual Disability Psychiatrist and will lead on the care of seven male inpatients on Tweed Hospital Based Rehabilitation Ward/Bungalows at Northgate Park. In addition, they will provide medical AC cover to four inpatients and will manage a small caseload of patients currently subject to the MM ruling with plans to review for supervised discharge. They will also conduct a weekly (or fortnightly) prison clinic at one of the local prisons. This is an exciting opportunity to join a friendly and supportive group of consultants and to participate in the growth and development of secure services on the Northgate site.
Main duties of the job
The candidate will manage seven (plus four medical AC) inpatients - four are based on Tweed Rehab ward and three are based at Mitford bungalows. The MM caseload will be regularly reviewed via job planning due to the recent introduction of supervised discharges. The prison clinic site can be negotiated to suit the preferences of the candidate.
The post will suit a motivated and enthusiastic candidate who is keen to develop services and ensure a high quality of care provision. The post will suit candidates who prefer a degree of autonomy over their decision‑making and the direction they take for their patients.

Person Specification
Qualifications and Training
* MBBS (or equivalent)
* Included on GMC Specialist Register (LD or Forensic Psychiatry) or eligible for inclusion, or a trainee within six months of CCT.
* Approved under Section12(2) of the Mental Health Act 1983
* Approved Clinician Status.
* MRCPsych or equivalent qualification.
* Postgraduate qualifications in a relevant field.
* Has undergone training in educational supervision.
* Has undergone training in appraisal.
Knowledge
* Up to date knowledge in the field of Psychiatry.
* Awareness of current issues and controversies in service provision, mental health policy and legislation.
* An area of special interest relevant to the post as demonstrated by publications or presentations to learned societies.
Experience
* Experience of multidisciplinary team working.
* Wide clinical experience in forensic or LD psychiatry in different clinical settings.
* Experience of Clinical Audit.Experience in multiagency work especially with service user, carer and voluntary agencies.
* Experience in service management or development.

* High level of clinical skills
