Role

Role: Engineer [Electronics]. Band & Salary: 4C £43,588 - £51,719. Locations: Weston Super Mare. Contract Type: Permanent. Interview Dates: Week commencing 26th August.


About the Team

We design and manufacture the High Performance Switch System (HPSS), a type of Point Operating Equipment (POE) used across Network Rail infrastructure. The Technology Development Team (TDT) in Weston-super-Mare supplies HPSS systems, operational spares, tooling, repairs and full product support from the factory.


Main Responsibilities

* Support electronics production activities to facilitate timely delivery and overall operational efficiency in the Weston-super-Mare factory.
* Assembly, inspection, calibration and test of electronics equipment for POE in accordance with operating, quality assurance, safety and environment procedures.
* Lead investigations into faulty electronics equipment returned from customers, analyse data, prepare testing and reports, identify root causes and recommend improvements to prevent repeat failures.
* Provide guidance and support to production staff and junior engineers, fostering collaboration, accountability and technical excellence.


Key Skills

* Hands-on electronics assembly and testing experience with PCBs, soldering, and test equipment (oscilloscopes, multimeters, signal generators).
* Root cause analysis and fault diagnosis in electronic systems.
* Process documentation and reporting — ability to produce clear technical documentation and test/investigation summaries.


Essential Criteria

* HNC/HND or equivalent qualification or demonstrate equivalent experience (Level 4 / 5).
* Substantial experience in a relevant engineering area.
* Sound knowledge of relevant policies and standards.
* Understanding of safety management systems and risk assessment techniques.


Desirable But Not Essential

* Degree in a relevant subject (Level 6).
* Incorporated Engineer or Chartered Engineer.
* Project management experience and awareness of project management techniques.
* Railway industry experience.
