Job Description:
Key Responsibilities:
* Develop high-quality and maintainable code with an automation-first approach.
* Provide in-depth insight into DevOps issues and demonstrate strong technical experience.
* Maintain an open-minded attitude and ability to rapidly adapt and learn in line with DevOps culture.
* Facilitate workshops and meetings with stakeholders, show and tell, and drive outcomes.
* Manage technology change, issues, and escalations (external and internal), taking responsibility until resolved.
* Lead by example, acting as a servant-leader, demonstrating appropriate behaviors, managing conflicts, and fostering a constructive team culture.
Essential Skills and Experience:
* 5+ years of experience with a broad range of AWS technologies (e.g., EC2, RDS, ELB, EBS, EFS, S3, VPC, Glacier, IAM, CloudWatch, KMS) with a focus on cloud security.
* Expertise in provisioning infrastructure using Terraform and VMs with tools like Vagrant.
* Solid experience as a DevOps Engineer in a 24x7 AWS environment, including automation with configuration management tools.
* Strong scripting skills (Shell, Python, PowerShell, Perl, Java) and automation skills.
* Thorough knowledge of Jenkins and pipelines using Groovy.
* Experience with Docker containers and Amazon Linux 2023 AMI.
* Experience with system monitoring tools (Grafana, Alert Manager, Prometheus, Node exporter).
* Ability to analyze and resolve complex infrastructure and deployment issues.
* Experience with Git, Jira, Confluence, and ServiceNow for incident and change management.
* Knowledge of Windows System Update Service, DFS Replication, GPO, and related Windows administration tools.
* Experience in automating software installation and security scanning with tools like ClamAV and MS Defender.
Desired Skills and Experience:
* Linux system administration, including hardening and management.
* MS Active Directory management.
* Firewall and switch configuration, patch management.
* Understanding of network topologies and protocols.
* Hands-on DevOps experience in consultancy, agency, or government projects.
* AWS or Azure certification or willingness to attain one.
* Self-starter with ability to work in both process-driven and ambiguous environments.
* Experience working within Central Government and other sectors.
* Proven ability to work with senior stakeholders and build relationships.
* Passion for digital technology, continuous learning, and development.
* Excellent communication, organizational, and independent working skills.
* Legal right to live and work in the UK, British nationality preferred, with UK residence to obtain SC clearance.
