About the Role
Network Support Engineer will be responsible for monitoring network performance, both transmission and IP, as well as the underlying infrastructure. You will act on alarms and troubleshoot issues, including incidents reported by customers. Collaborating with third-party providers, you will perform in-depth troubleshooting and coordinate joint efforts to resolve incidents. Additionally, you will coordinate planned maintenance, suggest best practice changes, and contribute to the organization's knowledge database, ensuring optimal network performance and continuous improvement.
Responsibilities
* Review, validate and process telecommunications requirements.
* Analyse and provide technical solutions for customer service requests.
* Perform installation and handling optical transmission systems.
* Supervising the installation of fiber systems and ensuring proper alignment, signal strength, and data transfer rates.
* Performing regular tests and maintenance on fibers, systems, and associated equipment to minimize downtime and loss of data.
* Updating and maintaining project documentation and system records.
* Coordinate and knowledge share with other technical staff and users when necessary.
* Troubleshooting and rectifying field problems and responding to network outages quickly.
* Monitor customer services per platform and act both on alarm-generated, as well as customer-initiated incidents, and conduct troubleshooting.
* Interact with third party providers (hardware, network, FLM) during trouble-shooting
* Own and coordinate efforts for your incident by perform in-depth level of analysis and troubleshooting, including joint troubleshooting with vendor or customer
* Coordinate planned maintenance, change management procedures.
* Follow and suggest changes for best practices, contribute to knowledge database
* Ability to interpret schematic drawings of large-scale deployments.
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and resolve issues related to NMS (Network Management System), EMS (Enterprise Management System), SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol).
* Develop test plans and execute tests for software releases in a timely manner.
* Provide technical support to customers on networking products and services.
* Troubleshoot complex network issues using various tools such as NMS/EMS.
* Reporting & documentation.
Skill Requirement
* Fiber Optic Engineer candidates are expected to possess at least a bachelor's degree in engineering, specifically in fields like Electronics Engineering, Telecommunications, or a related field. The education should provide a robust foundation in electronic principles, network design, and project management. Additionally, the following certifications can enhance a candidate's qualifications:
* Certified Fiber Optic Technician (CFOT) from the Fiber Optic Association (FOA)
* Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) or similar network-specific certifications
* Minimum of 5 years of experience in fiber optic design and implementation. Design, implement, and maintain complex network architectures using DWDM, OTN, WDM, SDH, PDH, SDWAN technologies
* Solid foundation and expertise in operational knowledge on current platforms IP (Cisco, Arista, Juniper), Mobile Data and Transmission (fiber and xWDM) (Infinera, ADVA, Ciena)
* Sound knowledge of fiber optic cable testing, splicing and provisioning. Strong understanding of fiber optic technologies and transmission systems
* Strong technical knowhow and skills in terms of trouble shooting (e.g. TCP/IP, MPLS, BGP, QoS, DWDM). Familiarity with tap couplers, wavelength division multiplexers, isolators, circulators, optical amplifiers, and hybrid components.
* Skilled in operating OTDR (optical time domain reflectors) optical spectrum analyzers, optical fusion splicers, tunable laser sources, oscilloscopes, function generators, optical power meters, multi-meters, and attenuators.
* Excellent understanding of specified data communications protocols and standards such as TCP/IP, ATM, SONET, and Frame Relay.
* Experience working in international telecom environment (NOC, Technical Support)
* Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills. Strong analytical capabilities and a drive to transform information into fact-based knowledge.
* Exceptional teamwork skills with a strong sense of responsibility, actively contributing to the success of the team. Proficient with Visio, MS Outlook, Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
* Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
* Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) to effectively convey information and collaborate with various stakeholders
