Hays Recruitment is proud to be working in partnership with a mainstream 3-form entry primary school in Widnes that is not only at the heart of its local community but also easily accessible via public transport. They are looking to appoint experienced and reliable teaching assistants to support pupils with speech and language difficulties within a reception class. This is a full-time (hours per week) long-term temporary contract starting in September 2025 that will last the full academic year.
Your new role
As a teaching assistant within this school, you will play an integral part in the learning and development of a small group of pupils with ECHPs in the reception class. The pupils you will be supporting have a variety of needs, including ASD, delay disorders, and learning disabilities. They are able to access parts of the curriculum but struggle to access the majority. This is not due to their behaviour, as they are an extremely loving group of pupils who are struggling with their speech and language. To ensure that all pupils reach their full academic potential, you will offer specific speech and language interventions on a 1:1 basis. You will also deliver phonics assessments using the RWI phonics scheme, use associative cards, hold guided reading and writing sessions in small groups, and ensure that all attainment sessions are fun and stimulating to retain focus. Over the course of the academic year, the school hopes you will make continuous progress with the pupils and help integrate them more into the main class and curriculum.
What you'll need to succeed
To be considered for this role, you must have full "Right to Work" in the UK, recent referenceable classroom experience, and:
* Experience delivering speech and language interventions
* Experience using PECs and/or Makaton is advantageous
* An NVQ Level 2 Supporting Teaching and Learning or equivalent qualification is advantageous but not essential
What you'll get in return
If successful, you will receive full support, dedication, and guidance from a senior DfE-accredited recruitment consultant, along with a wide range of benefits.
