This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and highly motivated Occupational Therapist to join the Wirral Chronic Pain Service. This service provides pain management solutions for patients living on the Wirral and the local Cheshire areas. We strive to deliver the best level of evidence-based care and will require the post holder to be innovative and equally passionate about supporting people with chronic pain to live better.
The post holder would join an existing multidisciplinary team, who specialise in the assessment and management of chronic pain. The team consists of Consultant anaesthetists, pain physiotherapists, psychologists, pharmacist and assistant therapy staff. The post holder will work closely with all members of the team in patient care and continued development of the service.
The role will require pain focused occupational therapy assessment and management interventions, within an out-patient setting, currently based in Clatterbridge Hospital. Patients in the service present with a wide range of complex chronic pain conditions/presentations. The post holder will be expected to develop and deliver individual and group-based pain management programs, all following evidence-based guidelines. Additionally, the post holder will link with community providers in developing a patients return to activities of daily living, work, and leisure.
Main duties of the job
To work as an Occupational Therapy Practitioner in the Wirral Chronic Pain Service, outpatient department, Clatterbridge Hospital
To work as an autonomous practitioner under the guidance of the Chronic Pain Team Lead and be responsible for their own case load.
To deliver evidence-based and effective specialist care in the management of a range of chronic pain presentations.
To participate in assessment, treatment planning, and interventions for patients with chronic pain.
Setting goals with individual patients
To deliver one-to-one and group-based therapy
To work alongside the multi-disciplinary team to deliver joint patient care and to collectively develop the pain service, always striving to be the best care provider possible
To deliver vocational rehabilitation, consisting of specialist assessment and treatment to support patients returning to work
To tailor occupational based interventions to maximise independence and quality of life with activities of daily living
To deliver relaxation/mindfulness sessions on a one to one and group-based environment.
Communicate effectively with the patients GP to facilitate beneficial partnership in patient care
Promote patient education and understanding of pain, rehabilitation and self-management strategies
Develop educational resources/materials where required.
Attend and contribute to regular multi-disciplinary team meetings and mandatory training
Person Specification
Qualifications, Specific Experience & Training
* Graduate Diploma or BSc Occupational Therapy or equivalent qualification recognised by HCPC (or student Occupational Therapist with qualification pending)
* HCPC registration
* Core Rotations as a Band 5 Therapists in a range of core areas: o Orthopaedics o Medical or Frailty Inpatients o Neurological Rehabilitation
* Appropriate experience as a qualified Occupational Therapist
Knowledge and Skills
* Basic computer skills
