An opportunity has arisen for a person to join the PMAV Team, which sits within Occupational Health & Safety and includes Moving & Handling training. The vacancy is for the role of PMAV Tutor, a full-time, 37-hour, permanent position.
We are looking for someone who is either clinical or non-clinical, enthusiastic, confident, with empathy for staff, patients, and relatives, and able to represent our organization by delivering PMAV training to internal and external staff. This is a physically demanding role, so the candidate needs good physical fitness and the ability to demonstrate PMAV techniques accurately and consistently across all staff grades.
This role offers an opportunity for an individual with an understanding or willingness to learn about Trauma-Informed Care, Stress, and Distress within an NHS environment. It also includes support and advisory responsibilities, including risk assessments across the organization, and support to staff with Lone Working, Lone Working Monitoring Systems, and Personal Safety advice and risk assessments.
Understanding appropriate physical intervention skills to manage a range of preventative measures when managing aggression and violence is preferred.
Working with all staff grades and individuals (patients, visitors, and clients), especially in complex care management situations, travel flexibility and responsiveness to service needs are essential.
If the candidate does not hold a current GSA Grade A Instructor Certificate, they must attend a three-week external tutor course (venue and date to be confirmed). The position is contingent upon achieving Grade A Tutor Status.
Interview date: Tuesday, 30th September 2025, will include a formal presentation (PowerPoint format) on: "How would you reduce aggression and violence in healthcare settings, with evidence to support your theory?" and a 2-hour group physical intervention technique taster session. Candidates should wear appropriate clothing, including closed-toe shoes, and participate fully in the physical session.
Note: Due to legislative changes from 1 April 2025, this post may require a different level of criminal records check. If deemed a "regulated role," appointment will be subject to PVG Scheme membership. Further details are available on the Disclosure Scotland website.
Legal eligibility to work in the UK is mandatory. NHS Scotland will verify entitlement to work as part of pre-employment checks, including visa status or settled/pre-settled status as per GOV.UK guidelines.
