Senior Electrical Engineer – Environment Agency
This role is an exciting opportunity for an experienced electrical engineer with knowledge of high, medium, low and extra‑low voltage electrical systems, equipment and control systems. The position is part of the Standards and Engineering team, and expertise in SCADA / telemetry systems would be beneficial.
Working within the Standards, Asset Management and Engineering Directorate you will help shape how we deliver services into the future. As part of our Technical Authority you will provide technical engineering leadership and support to meet safe, reliable and sustainable asset commitments and our net zero carbon objectives.
Responsibilities
* Manage, develop and maintain electrical engineering standards, including electrical safety rules for HV and LV power systems and control systems across assets such as pumping stations and flood defence structures.
* Develop, deliver and maintain competency and skills guidance for all employees working on electrical systems.
* Hold a national incident response role, which may be within normal or out‑of‑hours periods.
* Provide specialist technical advice and design to ensure effective, efficient and safe MEICA activity.
Qualifications & Experience
* Good working knowledge of Electricity at Work regulations and BS 7671 IET wiring regulations.
* Good working knowledge of control systems, IEC 61508, IEC 62061 and BS EN 13489, and telemetry / SCADA systems.
* Knowledge of high and low voltage generation and distribution systems.
* Experience in developing and delivering safe systems of work, risk assessments and method statements.
* Testing and isolation of high and low voltage electrical systems.
* Risk‑based approach to electrical maintenance philosophies, including FMEA, reliability systems and processes.
* Drafting and publishing of electrical policy, instructions and guidance.
* Excellent work management, team working and communication skills.
* UK driving licence.
* Current membership of a recognised engineering institution and Chartered Engineer status with the UK Engineering Council, or evidence of working toward registration with a realistic prospect of registration within 12 months.

This is a hybrid role. A base location will be allocated near your home. Some travel and overnight stays may be required.
