Purpose of the role
The Management Accountant will be based at our Portsmouth Depot (PO6 1TA) and play a key role in delivering accurate, timely financial information and meaningful insight to support business decision‑making. The role acts as a trusted partner to operational and commercial teams, ensuring strong financial control while driving performance across long‑term contracts.
Main Responsibilities
* Own the preparation and delivery of monthly management accounts, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and adherence to reporting deadlines, including profit and loss statements, variance analysis, and commentary.
* Oversee financial processes across the business, ensuring all costs are captured, allocated, and reported in line with company policies and governance.
* Supervise sales invoicing, purchase ledger activities, payroll, and subcontractor payments to ensure timely and accurate processing.
* Manage and support finance and administration teams, allocating workloads and maintaining high performance and accountability.
* Produce budgets and bi‑annual forecasts, covering labour, overheads, and operational costs.
* Monitor working‑capital performance, including debt and work‑in‑progress, and liaise with commercial teams to communicate risks and opportunities.
* Maintain compliance with financial regulations and group accounting policies, acting as guardian of financial governance.
* Build strong cross‑department relationships, promoting best practices and enhancing the finance function’s value.
Profile
The ideal candidate is a qualified or part‑qualified accountant, ideally with or working towards AAT or ACCA qualifications, and with at least three years’ experience in a Management Accountant role within a construction or manufacturing environment. Candidates should have strong financial modelling capability, data analytical skills, and advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel. Experience with Power BI is highly desirable. Strong commercial awareness, attention to detail, clear communication of financial information to non‑financial stakeholders, and a proactive, flexible approach are essential. Excellent organisational, problem‑solving, and interpersonal skills, along with a solid understanding of financial systems, reporting frameworks, and regulatory requirements, are required.

* Salary between £45,000 and £55,000, dependent on experience
