Band 7/8a Applied Psychologist

Community Mental Health Team and Inpatient Services

Various locations possible including: Juniper Centre, Moseley; Reservoir Court, Erdington; Maple Leaf Drive, Solihull; one of the vacancies covers Birmingham and Solihull, the other vacancies will cover just one patch of the city.

Main duties of the job

We are seeking newly qualified and experienced Applied Psychologists to join our Psychology team within the Dementia and Frailty Division at BSMHFT, providing mental health services to older people with complex mental health in Birmingham and Solihull.

Newly qualified Clinical, Counselling or Forensic/Clinical Psychologists, or those expecting to qualify in 2026, are encouraged to apply as posts could be offered as a Preceptorship. We offer a tailored programme of Continued Professional Development (CPD) and other developmental opportunities to support your progression and career development.

We have posts available within our community mental health teams and Care Home Liaison Team, which can be offered full-time or part-time, offering flexibility in working hours and the focus of work.

Person Specification


Academic/Professional

* Doctoral level training in clinical or counselling psychology (or anticipates will receive award in 2025)
* HCPC Registration as Practitioner Psychologist
* Further qualifications related to role, e.g., BABCP accreditation, Neuropsychology


Clinical Skills

* Psychological assessment and therapy with severe mental health problems
* Psychological assessment, formulation, and intervention with people living with dementia
* Post-qualification experience and skills in assessment and therapy


Knowledge

* Knowledge of ageing and how ageing impacts mental health
* Knowledge of wider, systemic factors that affect older people, e.g., Social Graces, services for older people
* Post-qualification CPD in ageing and mental health, or neuropsychological assessment, or an activity relating to older people


Leadership skills

* Experience of leadership roles i.e., supervision or service improvement
* Experience of MDT meetings and knowledge of psychological input into the MDT
* CPD in provision of supervision or service improvement
