As an Experienced Nurse, you will provide high-quality clinical care to patients with complex mental health needs within an acute hospital setting, including a Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). You will assess, plan, implement, and review patient care, ensuring treatment is safe, effective, and recovery-focused. The role includes managing risk, responding to incidents, and maintaining a safe therapeutic environment, while supporting ward leadership, guiding and mentoring junior staff, and ensuring standards of care, documentation, and communication are consistently met.
Main duties of the job
* Deliver safe, effective nursing care to patients with complex mental health needs
* Carry out assessments, develop care plans, and review patient progress
* Administer and manage medication in line with clinical guidance
* Identify, assess, and manage risk to maintain a safe environment
* Support and lead ward staff, providing guidance, supervision, and mentorship
* Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to deliver coordinated care
* Maintain accurate, timely clinical records and documentation
* Respond to incidents, emergencies, and changes in patient presentation
* Promote patient engagement, recovery, and independence
* Ensure high standards of handover and communication across shifts
* Support compliance with policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements
* Contribute to maintaining a structured, safe, and therapeutic ward environment
About you
* You are a registered nurse (RMN, RNLD, or RGN with relevant mental health experience) with current NMC registration.
* You have experience working within acute mental health or PICU settings and are confident managing complex presentations, risk, and challenging behaviour.
* You are calm under pressure, able to lead by example, and confident in supporting and directing others.
* You understand the importance of structure, consistency, and professional boundaries within a clinical environment.
* You communicate clearly, maintain accurate records, and take accountability for your practice.

Salary and location
Location: Ashby De La Zouch, Leicestershire, LE65 2PJ
Hours: 40 hours per week (shift-based rota including days, nights, weekends, and public holidays)
Salary: £21.15 per hour
