Job Overview
Hospital Sterilisation and Disinfection Technician (HSDU Technician) at the County site of University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust. The role involves checking, cleaning, disinfecting, packaging and sterilising surgical instruments and delivering them to operating theatres, wards, departments, clinics and GP surgeries.
Shift Patterns
* Days: 06:00 – 14:00
* Twilight: 14:00 – 22:00
* Nights: 22:00 – 06:00
* Saturday: 08:00 – 16:00 or 12:00 – 20:00
* Sunday: Day shift (hours to be confirmed) or 22:00 – 06:00 as part of the night rota
Working Hours and Preferences
Full‑time, 37.5 hours per week. Permanent weekends are required with one back‑fill day off during the week. On‑call and bank holiday working on rota are essential.
Pay and Enhancements
Band 2 salary of £25,272 per annum plus enhanced pay for work after 20:00 to 06:00 and for weekend shifts, in accordance with Agenda for Change terms and conditions.
Main Responsibilities
* Receive and check surgical instruments after use.
* Clean, disinfect, package and sterilise instruments in accordance with established protocols.
* Deliver sterilised instruments back to operating theatres, wards, departments, clinics and GP surgeries.
* Maintain accurate records of instrument traceability and log entries.
Qualifications and Requirements
* Good standard of education, literacy and numeracy skills.
* Basic computer skills for daily use of a PC and record keeping.
* Experience working within a team in a production environment.
* Knowledge of infection control procedures.

* Strong interest in healthcare and patient safety.
* Ability to deliver high quality work to tight deadlines.
