Role - Electrical Senior Design Engineer
Location - Warrington (Other locations may be considered)
Purpose of the role:
As an Electrical Senior Design Engineer, you will be a key member of the Engineering Design Team, working with Principal Engineers, Design Managers, and Design Leads to deliver high-quality designs compliant with GT processes, BMS, and H&S Regulations. This technical role requires expertise in water and wastewater industry design, with potential line management responsibilities for other engineers.
You will contribute to engineering governance, ensure design integration across disciplines, support procurement and site activities, and mentor junior staff.
What will you be doing:
* Ensure technical compliance and quality in design outputs.
* Lead discipline aspects of projects.
* Seek optimal, cost-effective design solutions.
* Assist in CDM regulation compliance.
* Design for buildability and safety.
* Ensure procedural governance adherence.
* Ensure designs meet client specifications and standards.
* Comply with health, safety, and environmental legislation.
* Promote innovation, value engineering, and digital design.
* Solve technical problems throughout the project lifecycle.
* Support pre-contract design activities.
* Share lessons learned and mentor team members.
* Manage multidisciplinary design engineers.
* Support staff development and professional accreditation.
About you
* Proficient in ETAP for HV & LV modelling, protection studies, load flow, short circuit calculations.
* Proficient with AutoCAD/Draftsight.
* Skilled in generating electrical installation packs, including cable calculations, diagrams, and schedules.
* Experienced in designing layouts for electrical switch rooms, cable routes, and substations.
* Capable of managing consultants for earthing design & studies.
* Knowledge of C&G BS wiring regulations, NICEIC certificates, and HV standards.
* Degree in Engineering or equivalent qualification preferred.
* + years experience in municipal water and wastewater industries.
* Chartered member of a recognized engineering body preferred.
* Experience in contracting or consulting environments with commercial awareness.
* Strong multi-disciplinary engineering design knowledge in water engineering.
* Experience in checking and approving design packages and reviewing subcontractor documentation.
* Knowledge of H&S legislation and British Standards.
* Experience with QA and H&S procedures.
* Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
* Strong IT skills, including Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and performance management systems.
* Leadership skills to motivate and guide the design team.
* Results-driven with a flexible attitude and problem-solving skills.
* Willing to embrace innovation and manage workload effectively.
* Ability to work independently and collaboratively, demonstrating pride and leading by example.
