Job Overview
To support patients during radiology examinations and to assist the other imaging assistants with preparing patients and carrying out these examinations. The role acts as a mentor and role model to junior RDAs, providing advice and guidance. Responsibilities include proactive work to assist radiology staff and developing a proficient cannulation service for training junior RDAs. This is primarily a rotational role through MRI and CT, with possible work in Nuclear Medicine and Fluoroscopy.
Main duties of the job
* Provide an effective Radiology service to PAHT within departmental protocols
* Communicate effectively with patients, relatives, peers, clinicians, and other staff throughout the organisation
* Maintain the principles of patient confidentiality at all times
* Work as part of a team
* Work with minimal supervision
* Support radiology staff and supervise junior RDAs
* Plan and prioritise own workload
* Work flexibly to cover evening and weekend sessions within contracted hours
* Be proactive in own self‑development
* Use computerised and manual methods to update patient records for each examination
* Attend all mandatory training
* Report incidents and/or potential accidents within the department, in line with Trust policy
* Care for patients within the Radiology department in terms of their immediate physical and emotional requirements
* Develop an astute understanding of patient preparation requirements such as food and water requirements prior and during examinations
* Develop knowledge and understanding of the safety issues involved with MRI scanning, including compliance with safety regulations about the nature of materials to be taken into the MRI scanning room
