Main Purpose of Post:
Social Workers are key staff within the social care sector, responsible for meeting statutory obligations under the Social Services and Well-being (Wales) Act 2014 and others through their work in Local Authorities.
The overall purpose of the Social Work role within Children’s Services is to assess, risk assess, and provide services to children and their families, aiming to maintain children in their families where possible. When risk cannot be managed, to develop safety plans that enable children to achieve their full potential. The Social Worker must adhere to relevant legislation, regulations, and Powys County Council Policies and Procedures.
The role involves providing a social work service to children and young people to ensure their safety and support their development within legally permanent settings. It includes working as part of a team, undertaking duty tasks on a rotational basis, and providing cover for colleagues. Building effective relationships with colleagues and partner agencies is essential, as is identifying risk issues and ensuring safeguarding measures are in place.
Responsibilities include:
* Assessing the needs of individuals and their carers holistically, negotiating, monitoring, and reviewing care packages.
* Assessing risks and promoting independence.
* Making decisions regarding resource allocation.
* Promoting equal opportunities and respecting diversity.
* Supporting social inclusion of vulnerable groups.
* Investigating abuse of vulnerable adults and children.
* Enhancing collaboration with other agencies.
* Maintaining accountability through accurate record-keeping.
Experience:
Experience in needs assessment and risk identification.
Knowledge:
* Understanding of service users' needs.
* Knowledge of relevant legislation, guidance, and best practices.
* Knowledge of social care needs of children and families.
Qualifications & Training:
Appropriate social work qualification (Degree in Social Work, DipSW, or equivalent) and registration with Social Care Wales.
Skills:
* Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
* Ability to organise and manage a caseload.
