Agronomist

Marks and Spencer
Agronomist
Posted: 16 November
Offer description

As an Agronomist at M&S, you’ll help shape the future of fresh produce. You’ll work with the world’s most innovative growers to deliver outstanding quality, flavour and consistency across our global supply chains. Resilience is at the heart of this role: working as part of a team and alongside our grower partners, you’ll build strong, high-quality sourcing that stands firm throughout the year. This is a chance to lead the market, not follow it. We’re proud to invest in quality, not compromise it, giving you the freedom to raise standards, drive innovation and make a real impact. If you’re passionate about produce and excited by the idea of transforming farming systems, packaging, and sourcing, this is your opportunity to help us deliver the very best to our customers, every single day.

Please note that we’re recruiting for two roles—one in Veg and one in Salad. While each role will focus on a specific category, we’ll confirm which one you’ll join at offer stage.

Due to high interest, this role may close earlier than advertised. We recommend applying as soon as possible.

What you’ll do

1. Build strong relationships with growers and suppliers to ensure safe, high-quality products that meet our exacting standards
2. Lead varietal and sourcing plans that keep M&S ahead of the competition in quality, consistency and innovation
3. Drive packaging innovation and sustainability across produce categories, working with specialists and suppliers
4. Monitor and improve product quality year-round, managing seasonal transitions and sourcing calendars
5. Represent M&S externally on industry issues and collaborate across disciplines to deliver technical solutions

Who you are

6. Hold a degree-level technical qualification in an appropriate subject or bring significant industry experience at the right level, with professional accreditation (. BASIS) where appropriate
7. Demonstrate empathy with producers and a sound understanding of horticultural production, ideally with experience in fresh produce or vegetables
8. Communicate with clarity and confidence, influencing and engaging internal and external partners across functions
9. Build strong supplier relationships and manage grower networks to deliver consistent quality and innovation
10. Understand customer needs and brand values, with a clear view of how sustainable sourcing impacts margin and profit

What’s in it for you?

Working at M&S means being part of something bigger – helping to deliver quality, value and service to millions of customers every day. We’re inclusive, fast-moving and always evolving, with a strong sense of purpose and a focus on doing the right thing.

Here are just a few of the benefits that make working here even more rewarding:

11. 20% colleague discount on all M&S products and many third-party brands for you and someone in your household, available once you’ve completed your probation
12. Competitive holiday allowance with the option to buy more
13. Discretionary bonus schemes linked to your performance and ours
14. Strong pension and life assurance to help plan for the future
15. Tailored induction and training to support your development from day one
16. Exclusive perks and savings through our M&S Choices portal
17. Market-leading family policies, including parental, adoption and neonatal leave
18. 24/7 wellbeing support, including virtual GP access and mental health services
19. One paid volunteer day a year to support a cause that matters to you

Everyone’s welcome

We are ambitious about the future of retail. We’re disrupting, innovating and leading the industry into a more conscientious, inspiring digital era. We’re transforming how we work together and offering our most exciting opportunities yet. Marks & Spencer strives to be an inclusive organisation, trusted and admired by our colleagues, customers and suppliers. Join us and make change happen.

We are committed to building diverse and representative teams, where everyone can bring their whole selves to work and be at their best. We support each other and work together to win together.

If you feel you'd benefit from any support or reasonable adjustments during any stage of the recruitment process, please don’t hesitate to let us know when completing your application. This information will be picked up by our team, so we can try and put steps in place to help you be at your best through this process.
