The role

To help drive things forward, we’re looking for a packaging Category Buyer to join our team. The role will be based at our Tring HQ and sit within our Global Sourcing Team, part of the wider operations function managing Huel’s entire supply chain. With significant opportunities ahead, this is your chance to make a real impact, driving change and adding value from day one.
Your main focus will be our packaging category. This involves building supply chains that run smoothly, sourcing the right packaging products at the right price from trusted suppliers, all while upholding Huel’s values and standards.
Here’s what you’ll be responsible for:
* Strategic sourcing: Develop and execute sourcing strategies aligned with Huel’s global goals, leading tender processes for your categories.
* Commercial impact: Negotiate competitive costs for packaging and merchandise, seeking opportunities for savings and added value.
* Packaging quality: Lead improvements in packaging performance to support our manufacturing facilities and maintain customer satisfaction. Address packaging issues and reduce complaints to ensure smooth operations.
* Cross-functional collaboration: Work with teams across NPD, Technical, Marketing, Sustainability, Production, and Planning to identify opportunities and implement improvements.
* Sustainability focus: Ensure packaging meets Huel’s sustainability and ethical standards, complying with legislation across all markets.
* Technical expertise: Build supplier knowledge and support internal teams and co-manufacturers with packaging-related queries.
* Supplier performance: Set and monitor KPIs to evaluate and improve supplier performance.
* Problem-solving: Collaborate with Technical to resolve packaging non-conformances and implement corrective actions.
* Regulatory compliance: Stay informed on packaging regulations in UK, EU, US, and Asia, leading projects to ensure compliance.
What we're looking for in you
Ideally, you’ll have 1-2 years of experience in buying or procurement within food manufacturing or FMCG, but what matters most is that you are:
* Commercially minded: Good commercial acumen and a passion for sustainability.
* Brand proud: Enthusiastic about Huel and our products, confident in representing us with suppliers.
* Curious and technical: Eager to learn product details and develop technical knowledge.
* Flexible and adaptable: Comfortable in a fast-moving environment with shifting priorities.
* Proactive and detail-oriented: Take initiative, spot opportunities, and ensure accuracy.
* Great communicator: Build relationships, manage expectations, and collaborate effectively.
* Comfortable with ambiguity: Take responsibility and drive progress without perfect clarity.
* Analytical: Confident working with data, with strong skills in Google Sheets or similar tools.
