About the role


We have a fantastic opportunity to join our Portbury site as Plant Controller.

The focus of this role is to provide financial reporting for the plant and provide financial support to the Plant Manager and business through finance business partnering. You will work collaboratively with Plant Leadership team and the business to ensure costs are optimised and managed and implement finance best practices within the plant.

Where required you will also deputise for the Plant Manager, which is why it is important to obtain the ability to understand the full breadth of plant activity.

What you'll be doing


1. Product/Process costing – ensuring that yields, labour and direct overhead standards reflect the true cost of manufacture. Working with the Plant, Business and Process teams to resolve any differences.
2. Ensuring that actual costs are recovered within reported product costs and that variances are identified, investigated and actioned with the Plant team.
3. Provision of weekly detailed and top level KPI reports for the plant using our internal EPM dashboards. Review of KPI data with operations to identify performance improvement opportunities.
4. Control of Stock Write/Stock at Risk, partnering with Supply Chain to ensure the most cost-effective recovery plan is reviewed and actioned.  
5. General ledger reviews - review and control of postings to plant cost centres.
6. Capital control – evaluate proposals for ROI opportunities, monitor spend and review with the Plant team to ensure projects are delivered within the approved value.
7. Budget and projection cost preparation – working with the Plant team to establish a robust bottom-up budget including documented profit improvement plans.
8. Proposing and evaluating cost saving / profit enhancing, continuous improvement or system enhancement opportunities.
9. Key owner of master data and product standards information, alongside audit of SAP use and processes to facilitate optimised use of SAP system.
10. Ad hoc projects/ reporting.
11. In association with the Plant Manager and business team, ensuring tight control of all plant costs by understanding the cost drivers and reporting on them.
12. Provision of robust analysis and challenge of costs.
13. Ensuring all reporting deadlines are met in a timely manner.
14. Delivery of capex plan, and other associated strategies


What you can bring to the role


15. Qualified Accountant with a degree level qualification.
16. Significant experience within a manufacturing/operations accounting field
17. Experience in leadership & management within a manufacturing/FMCG environment
18. Experience working in an SAP environment (preferable)
19. Previous experience with business and Performance management
20. Solid communication and Knowledge Sharing, with excellent relationship building skills and the ability to operate in a matrix environment.
21. The ability to manage own and department workload, prioritise, recognise and initiate opportunity/projects, intuitively support team and meet challenging deadlines.
22. Good attention to detail, ability to recognise key metrics which define performance and ability to balance short/long term priorities
23. Ability to understand complex operations & supply chain associated costs
