Overview
Our Traffic Engineering Teams work throughout the UK&I and are involved in a wide range of projects from concept and preliminary design, traffic modelling, through to detailed design and implementation, with graduates gaining experience in all stages of a project lifecycle. We often work alongside other construction professionals, such as urban designers, in multi-disciplinary teams to create great urban spaces. Overall we deliver sustainable cost effective solutions to our clients, whether they are local or national authorities. Work is often fast paced and requires creativity, tenacity and excellent communication to achieve the right result for our clients whilst respecting the requirements of wider stakeholders and maintaining the highest industry standards.
Responsibilities
* When a graduate starts with us we pair them with an experienced engineer who will guide and mentor them through their initial period working on live projects. Training is arranged on our software engineering tools such as Autocad/Civils3D and, when required, traffic modelling software including LINSIG, TRANSYT and VISSIM to ensure all our engineers have a full set of design skills.
* Early work will typically involve assisting in developing our designs through the different stages, attending meetings and workshops with our clients and other design professionals.
* As a graduate develops, you are expected to take on more responsibility in managing our projects from inception through to completion.
* Candidates will use industry leading computer software and BIM modelling programmes while working on a variety of projects including:
o Road & Street design
o Cycle lane design
o Bus Priority and BRT Design
o Streetscape improvement projects
o Traffic management planning and design
o Traffic signal design
o Traffic signage design
o Traffic modelling (micro-simulation)
* Our Traffic Engineering graduates will have opportunities to work on major highways projects as both Traffic Engineering and Highway Graduates; graduates rotate between projects to receive broad training.
Qualifications
* BEng in Civil Engineering, General Engineering, or BA/BSc Geography, with a 2:1 (or equivalent) or above
* MEng in Civil Engineering, General Engineering, with a 2:1 (or equivalent) or above, or MA/MSc Geography would be an advantage
* And/or MSc in Transport Planning
* Masters in Mathematics
* Enthusiastic, hard-working, technically proficient, with ambition and drive
* Basic computer skills in Word and Excel are essential
* Good report writing skills are beneficial
* Ability to structure and prioritise work through close cooperation with the team
* Ability to work in a team and independently without losing initiative and focus
