A well-established and growing manufacturing and engineering group is seeking an experienced Controls Technician / Controls Engineer to join its team. This is an excellent opportunity to work within a dynamic, hands‑on environment where you will contribute to the design, build and support of bespoke control systems.
The Role
You will be responsible for supporting the full lifecycle of control system projects — from initial client discussions through to design, testing and site support.
Key responsibilities include:
* Liaising with clients to define system specifications and project requirements
* Assisting with the preparation of quotations
* Designing electrical schematics in line with relevant electrical and safety standards
* Designing control panel and cabinet layouts
* Producing Bills of Materials (BOMs)
* Developing PLC and HMI software (SCADA experience advantageous but not essential)
* Configuring instrumentation, VFDs and associated control equipment
* Testing equipment for electrical safety and operational compliance prior to dispatch
* Preparing technical documentation and manuals
* Supporting control panel builds in the workshop when required
* Providing technical support to internal teams and associated companies
* Delivering remote/telephone technical support
* Attending site visits when required for commissioning and system support
* Diagnosing and fault‑finding control system issues on machinery
* Supporting general workshop and light administrative duties within a small business environment
