Job Title: Technical Author

Location: Faslane, Helensburgh + Hybrid Working

Compensation: Up to £49,915 + Benefits

The role

As a Technical Author, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary.

Day to day, you will produce clear and concise maintenance documentation for the planned & preventative maintenance of critical infrastructure including Nuclear Safety Implicated (NSI) infrastructure that supports the Royal Navy’s Operations at HMNB Clyde. You will convert technical information from various sources including Operating & Maintenance Manuals (O&Ms), British Standards, Ministry Of Defence (MOD) Technical Standards and MOD Rules into user friendly maintenance procedures. You will collaborate with stakeholders such as Engineers and Subject Matter Experts to enhance & improve documentation and ensure documentation is compliant with the relevant regulations and meets the sites safety requirements. You will also be involved in creating procedures in Digital Format for use on Mobile Devices.

Other duties include:

* Assist the Senior Technical Author in maximising the utilisation of all the section’s resource.
* Ensure that all tasks are carried out in accordance with the Company’s cost, time and quality requirements.
* Implementation of the Company Safety, Quality and Environmental policies in the Operations Planning area of the business ensuring that assessments of risks are carried out which lead to safe working attitudes and practices.
* Production of NSI Work Procedures to meet production deadlines and include all detailed technical instructions for the fitting, repair or modification of assets to NSI standards.
* Review and update existing Maintenance Procedures before expiry date and review NSI Procedures and Non NSI Procedures as programmed on the IFS Database Review Plan.
* Collaborate with Maintenance Teams, Subject Matter Experts, Design Authority, Manufacturer and Nuclear Safety authorities to collate information and edit documentation with agreed technical amendments.
* Add newly registered assets to preventative maintenance regime by writing new procedures as necessary.

This role is a full-time permanent position 36 hours per week (Mon-Thurs) and includes a working from home arrangement, typically 2 days per week although this can fluctuate.

Essential experience of the Technical Author

* Proven Experience in Electrical Engineering & Maintenance with a strong understanding of Electrical Systems, .
* Experienced in the use of maintenance instructions and / or operating procedures.
* Understanding of maintenance planning and processes.
* Ability to liaise with stakeholders of all levels.
* Excellent written & verbal communication skills.
* Strong IT Skills

Desirable Experience

* Experience of writing Maintenance Documentation such as Maintenance Procedures, Safe Systems of Work, Risk Assessments and Inspection & Test Reports.
* Good knowledge of MS Office
* Experience of using Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Software such as IFS / SAP.
* Knowledge of documentation version control

Qualifications for the Technical Author

* Served a recognised Apprenticeship
* Relevant qualifications such as HNC, C&G 18th Edition wiring regulations and / or C&G Level 3 – Inspection & Testing

Please note that this position is subject to enhanced national security vetting. The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to satisfy Ministry of Defence security requirements (this may include obtaining SC, NNPPI or Developed Vetting (DV) level of security clearances).
