At Babcock we’re working to create a safe and secure world, together, and if you join us, you can play your part as an NDT Engineer at our Devonport Engineering site.

The role

As an NDT Engineer, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. We’re seeking NDT Engineers to support expanding MOD demands, including submarine life-extension and increased warship maintenance. Play a vital role in safeguarding critical assets and ensuring Royal Navy readiness.

Day-to-day, you’ll take a proactive approach to problem-solving while working independently or as part of a team. As a permanent shift worker under a Registered Agreement (including weekends), you'll apply platform knowledge across pipe systems and structures, utilise NDT processes effectively, and maintain records with strong computer literacy.

* Perform a range of NDT methods across naval and commercial platforms
* Collaborate with teams to meet project deadlines and cost targets
* Communicate technical NDT advice to internal and external stakeholders
* Maintain safety standards and follow inspection procedures
* Support NDT development through certification, method improvement, and problem-solving

This role is full time, 35 hours per week and is based on site at Devonport Dockyard.

There is an opportunity for Optimised Working Patterns (OWP) within this role. OWP is a temporary variation to your standard terms and condition that commits you to support 7-day working arrangements. For full details of the patterns, pay and durations, this can be found in the OWP 1 and OWP 2 agreements (available from hiring manager).

Essential Experience Of The NDT Engineer

Primarily, it involves 4-week shift cycles consisting of either day/back shift or day/night shift. An example of the remuneration for these shifts is as follows:

* Experience in ship or submarine fabrication/refit within an engineering discipline, or prior NDT experience—ideally in an engineering environment.

Qualifications For The NDT Engineer

* ONC in a constructive or mechanical engineering discipline, or multi-disciplined PCN Level 2 qualifications (desirable)
* Completion of a craft or technical apprenticeship

Security Clearance

The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to achieve and maintain Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information (NNPPI) security clearance for this role.

Many of the positions within our company are subject to national security clearance and Trade Control restrictions.
