Description and requirements

What do you want from your work? From your life?
If you’re looking for more than just a job, if you want to make a real difference with every decision you make, you’re in the right place.

Skanska is one of the largest construction and development companies in the world. Together, we shape how we live, work and connect – we build from the ground up and maintain your local communities, infrastructure and transportation.

Degree Apprentice Mechanical & Electrical Engineer - 2026 - Slough

We’re excited to open applications for our 2026 Apprenticeship Programme, starting in September. This is your opportunity to build a meaningful career where your work contributes to healthier, greener, and more inclusive places for people to thrive.

Our apprenticeship programme is a great opportunity to study towards a college or university qualification while putting everything you have learnt into action through on-the-job training. You will have the support of mentors who care about your growth, and you will establish a career where you will develop the technical and interpersonal skills to help you succeed and make a lasting impact.

Working as part of our building services team, working on a Data Centre project, we are now looking for enthusiastic Degree Apprentice MEP (Mechanical, Electrical & Public Health) Project Engineers to join our 2026 development programme and help us shape the future.

What you'll do:

1. Work alongside experienced engineers and construction professionals. Together, you will be solving engineering challenges that arise during the construction of buildings. No one day is the same.
2. Learn to design, plan and oversee the installation of building services systems. These include electrical systems, heating, ventilation, air-conditioning, drainage, renewable technologies and other bits and bobs that bring a building to life.
3. Co-ordinating site activities to make sure works get done safely, on time and to meet environmental legislation
4. Drawing up and translating plans using CAD (computer aided system) and BIM (building information modelling) software
5. Assisting with estimating and tenders in the pre-construction stage
6. Over time, you will learn to develop cost effective technical and sustainable design solutions involving the production of 3D models, calculations, specifications, reports and drawings.
7. Undertake a series of rotations and training workshops with our Preconstruction, Health & Safety, Procurement and Environment teams.
8. Overall, you will be assisting with design, planning, health & safety, site operations and commercial tasks.

What you'll bring to the role:

9. 5 GCSEs at Grades 4-9 including Maths (Grade 6-9), English and Science or their equivalent.
10. You will need to be comfortable with Maths and Physics as engineering is built on these fundamental skills
11. Thrive in a collaborative environment where your contributions are valued and celebrated
12. Dependable team player who actively supports and promotes collective success
13. Inquisitive and driven by a passion to grow and innovate
14. You must have lived in the UK in the last 3 years and have the right to work in the UK to be eligible for an apprenticeship. We are not able to proceed with applications that require visa sponsorship.
15. We are not able to proceed with applications from candidates that have already achieved a degree in a similar discipline.

What qualification will you be studying towards?

You will be studying a Level 3 Building services engineering technician qualification initially; however, we would expect and encourage you to progress on to Level 4 or Level 6 after you have completed Level 3.

What we offer:

16. You will join a community of 100+ graduates and apprentices, with opportunities to build networks and collaborate across the business
17. Support and guidance from experienced leaders and teams, plus development pathways to help you achieve professional accreditation — we cover membership expenses for the professional body of your choice
18. Regular professional and social events
19. Opportunities to volunteer at least one day per year
20. Access to our employee networks including Women’s, Ability, Pride, O.N.E (Origins Nationality Ethnicity), Military, and Mental Health & Wellbeing
21. My Rewards discounts and cycle to work scheme to support a healthy work–life balance where possible
22. You would be joining a mental-health-aware organisation and will have access to wellbeing support through our employee assistance programme, mental health ambassador network and wellbeing conversations

Programme start date: September 2026 - Join our team of 27,000 problem solvers and creative thinkers, where knowledge is our greatest creation. We share, listen and support your success – every step of the way.

Equal opportunities

We value diversity and strive to create inclusive teams — we welcome applications from people of all backgrounds and protected characteristics and believe different perspectives make us stronger.

Flexible working and reasonable adjustments
