A specialist school for children and young people with Social and Emotional Mental Health Needs based in Basingstoke are seeking confident, enthusiastic Graduates to join their team as an SEMH Teaching Assistant to support children with behaviour and mental health issues. The school specialise in supporting students who have ASC, therefore graduates who have qualified in Psychology, Counselling or Criminology would be ideal for this role, however candidates with relevant experience will certainly be considered! The SEMH School is in Basingstoke with good transport links and the role is full-time, temp to perm starting ASAP. The children are aged 11 to 16 and have been diagnosed or have significant traits of Autism Spectrum Condition so your role will be supporting each individual's well being and personal development.
This is a fantastic opportunity for the successful mental health assistant to work alongside the mental health co-ordinator, pastoral support and SENDco based on-site at school. You will be mentored and have the opportunity to shadow sessions and learn from them. Plus you will gain invaluable experience working with Special Needs and Mental Health issues. This is a great opportunity for an aspiring educational or occupational psychologist, therapeutic support worker or SEN teacher.
The SEMH School is looking for a Mental Health Assistant/Teaching Assistant who can bring enthusiasm, passion and experience to the classroom. They are looking for an SEN TA who will be proactive and adaptable and be able to use their own initiative. Resilience and confidence to work with challenging behaviour is desirable!
Responsibilities
* Support children with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs and Complex Needs
* Work alongside trained therapists, counsellors and psychologists
* Support students with ASC and autism-related needs
* Promote student well-being and personal development
* Be proactive, adaptable and use own initiative; build resilience to manage challenging behaviour
* Collaborate with the on-site mental health co-ordinator, pastoral support and SENDco
Requirements and Qualifications
* Level 3 qualifications+ are required
* A Degree in Psychology, Counselling or Criminology is highly desirable
* Experience with SEN or mental health/complex needs is advantageous
* Ideal for graduates in Psychology/Counselling/Criminology
