Head of Health & Safety
The University of Bradford is seeking a Head of Health & Safety to work with a collaborative and dynamic team on our campus. The initial contract is 6 months, with a potential transition to permanent.
Responsibilities
* Develop, implement and maintain health and safety procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
* Write and update health and safety policies, investigate accidents, and secure compliance with legislation, statutory tests and inspections.
* Lead strategic and operational initiatives across the University using professional Health & Safety knowledge.
* Provide clear, pragmatic, accurate, timely and decisive guidance to the management team on health and safety matters.
* Promote a culture of best practice, influencing and driving improvement actions and ensuring compliance with legislation and University policies.
Qualifications
* NEBOSH National Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent NVQ level 6.
* Degree level qualification in an appropriate safety related subject or equivalent experience.
* Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., IOSH) with at least Certified Member (CertIOSH) level.
* High level of experience in a multi‑faceted organisation.
* Broad and extensive knowledge and experience in a health and safety leadership role.
* Experience leading a Health & Safety Team.
* Strong written and verbal communication and influencing skills, able to engage stakeholders at all levels.
* Self‑motivated, able to plan and organise workload and manage conflicting deadlines without supervision.
* Ability to contribute advice and solutions to support resolution of complex HSW problems and issues.
Desirable
* NEBOSH Certificate in Fire Safety or equivalent, and/or experience in a fire safety role.
* Level 3 Award in Education and Training (formerly PTLLS).
* Experience working in a higher education environment.
