Placements will be for a period of 1 year, preferably commencing in June/July 2026. An option to extend contracts through July and August 2027 will also be given. Six‑month placements that cover March/April to September/October would also be considered. You will be working as a member of the team responsible for setting up and undertaking field and plot experiments as part of the ADAS R&D agricultural, horticultural and agri‑environmental programmes.
Successful candidates will need to be prepared to be “hands‑on” and learn skills on the job. Their duties include a wide range of practical tasks, such as sampling and disease monitoring of plants; assisting in marking out and preparation of studies; application of treatments, including spraying of chemicals onto trials; assessments and observations; preparation and processing of plant, soil and water samples; harvesting of plots; and collection and analysis of data.
Ideally you will be studying to degree level, or equivalent, in an agricultural, horticultural, or plant‑based science subject. Candidates will be required to work 37.5 hours a week. Due to the seasonal nature of the work, a flexible approach is needed, as there will be a requirement to work overtime (evenings and weekends) during busy periods to ensure scientific objectives are met and delivery within suitable weather conditions is optimised. A full driving licence to drive manual vehicles in the UK is essential.
