About the roleThis role supports the provision of palliative care to children, young people and families living with a life limited condition. Palliative care includes the provision of respite breaks, enabling children opportunities to have fun and make memories 'adding life to shortened years'. You will provide high quality, holistic, family centred and compassionate care whilst meeting the complex clinical needs of the children in our care.Essential criteriaBe integral in supporting patient safety and driving high quality, evidence-based care across the care team.Work as a shift lead, ensuring appropriate allocation of patients, providing support to junior staff where needed.Be a role model to the team, demonstrating a high level of professional behaviours, clinical skills and professional curiosity and management of risk.Support the professional development of the clinical team, including teaching, providing feedback and fostering professional growth.This role includes the direct line management of a dedicated team within Chestnut Tree House hospice, and your responsibilities will include probationary reviews, one-to-one meetings, performance management, and health and wellbeing support. The post holder will lead with compassion and integrity, fostering a respectful and supportive environment. They will also provide mentoring and facilitate training and development opportunities, ensuring staff are empowered to deliver exceptional, family-centred care in line with our organisational values.Work with the senior management team to support effective change management.Participate in quality governance processes including audit and contributing to workstreams such as safeguarding, transition, medicines management.Support engagement with colleagues within and beyond the hospice.Participate in the delivery of high-quality nursing care to children and young people who receive respite and end of life care at the hospice.Provide clinical nursing assessment, robust care planning and evaluation of care.Participate in the training and development opportunities and frameworks provided by the hospice education team.Use clinical judgment to manage the deteriorating patient, following care plans, escalation of care and the use of patient safety tools.Work within your scope of practice and clinical competence, asking for help from managers or external professionals when appropriate.Advocate for the child and young person and their families, supporting and promoting decisions, choices and best interests.About usSouthern Hospice Group is the largest group of hospices in Sussex and one of the largest in the UK.
