This is a 10 PA locum appointment for a Consultant Radiologist with special interests in Thoracic Radiology & related Intervention.

This post will deliver 10 PAs supporting the Thoracic Radiology & Related Intervention service. Applicants should hold accreditation with the Royal College of Radiologists (FRCR) or equivalent and should be on the Specialist Register or have references which have been authorised by the Deputy Medical Director and Clinical Director.

Applicants should have established skills in Thoracic Radiology, Related Interventions, Acute CT and related specialties. Excellent communication and team working skills, a strong commitment to teaching and service development are essential.

The post will be based cross-site at Leeds General Infirmary and St James University Hospitals and will include an introduction to department of Clinical Radiology.

Main duties of the job

This post will deliver 10 PAs supporting the Thoracic Radiology & Related Intervention. The post-holder will work at Leeds General Infirmary and SJUH Hospitals working in the Thoracic Radiology and Radiology. There will be opportunities to contribute to the Thoracic MDT, provide an acute CT session and be involved in active research.

Job responsibilities

The post holders skills in Thoracic Radiology will complement and support the current demand on the service to deliver care to patients with Thoracic Radiology needs at the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust including

Achieving the best clinical outcomes within the resources available

Supervision of patients

Working with other staff and teams to ensure that waiting times are met

Contribute to Specialist Multi-disciplinary team meetings

We require a range of diagnostic and related Interventional skills to complement those of the existing staff, in a post working across-site at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and the workings at the proposed community diagnostic hub.

To link with Consultant colleagues in other relevant site specialist teams within the Radiology CSU and across the Trust

To work with colleagues in Radiology to deliver a diagnostic acute on call (currently 1 in 24) for Cat A. This includes both out-of-hours cover in addition to acute work during normal working hours.

To contribute to research, teaching, and new developments within Thoracic Radiology. The post holder will be encouraged to facilitate and contribute to the current clinical research programs on going in the department

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

* FRCR or equivalent qualification.

Desirable

* Higher degree e.g. MD/PhD relevant to the subspeciality .

Clinical, Academic, and Personal Skills

Essential

* Must be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and competence in all aspects of Thoracic Radiology.
* Sub specialty experience in Head and Neck Imaging or Cardiac CT would be an advantage but not essential.
* Support diagnostic on call service and acute CT.
* Specifically, must demonstrate higher specialist training in Thoracic Radiology.
* Evidence of continuous career progression consistent with personal circumstances.
* Experience in training undergraduate medical students and postgraduate doctors.
* Experience of participation in regular clinical audit & evidence of the ability to carry out medical research.
* Understanding of current issues in the NHS.
* Well organised and skilled in good time management. Effective interpersonal skills. Demonstrate ability to relate to and work within a team.
* Hold full GMC Registration with a license to practice. Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via: CCT, CESR (or) international applicants should comply with the GMC specialty registration process:

Desirable

* Previous attendance on Appraisal Techniques and Small Group Teaching Workshops.
* Attendance at recognised management course.
* Previous experience of supervising research by junior staff.

Clinical Experience and Career Progression

Essential

* Must be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and competence in all aspects of Thoracic Radiology Sub specialty experience in Head & Neck Imaging or Cardiac CT would be an advantage.
* Support diagnostic on call service and acute CT.
* Specifically, must demonstrate higher specialist training in Thoracic Radiology.
* Evidence of continuous career progression consistent with personal circumstances.

Eligibility, Fitness to practice, and Language Skills

Essential

* All applicants to have demonstrable skills in written and spoken English adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients/colleagues demonstrated by one of the following
* Applicants have undertaken undergraduate medical training in English. Or
* Achieved the minimum score of 7 across all 4 of the following categories in the academic International English Language Testing System (IELTS) in a single sitting within 24 mths at time of application
* Or achieved the minimum Grade B across all 4 of the following categories in the Occupational English Test (OET) in medicine in a single sitting within 24 months at time of application Listening, S
* Speaking, Reading and Writing. (You must provide your candidate number).
* Hold full registration with the GMC at time of appointment and hold a current licence to practice.
* Eligibility to work in the UK.
* Is up to date and fit to practise safely.
