Purpose of the Role
To Underwrite Mortgage Applications accurately, Consistently, and in line with Keystone's Lending Criteria, regulatory requirements, and risk appetite. The role requires strong analytical judgement, effective pipeline management, and the ability to build productive relationships with internal teams and external partners.
Key Accountabilities
· Underwrite mortgage applications to a high standard, ensuring adherence to lending criteria, risk appetite, and compliance expectations
· Interpret Cais/Credit data, financial statements, and supporting documents for individual and company applications
· Assess income and complete case types, including Standard properties, Multi-unit (MUP) properties, HMO's, Expats, foreign nationals, Trading Limited companies, SPVs and Holiday lets
· Provide clear, well reasoned decisions, including referrals to senior mandate holders or Credit Committee where required
· Manage and prioritise a personal pipeline, meeting service levels and supporting colleagues when needed
· Collaborate with internal teams (Sales, Risk, Compliance, Pre-offer, Post Offer) to ensure smooth case progression and resolve queries promptly
· Communicate professionally with brokers, valuers, and external stakeholders, providing accurate updates and guidance.
· Contribute to continuous improvement, supporting training, sharing knowledge, and adapting to changes in the specialist lending market and regulatory environment
Essential skills and experience
· Strong Understanding of the Mortgage process and the wider Mortgage market.
· Preferably 2 years' underwriting experience, ideally within Buy-to-Let Residential or Commercial experience also considered
· Proven ability to assess complex cases with high attention to detail and sound judgement
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
· Strong analytical, planning and problem-solving skills
· Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
· Ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment
· Demonstrated ability to work to defined service standards and deadlines
· Strong teamwork, with a commitment to supporting colleagues and contributing to shared goals
Desirable Attributes
· Experience with Standard properties, Multi-unit (MUP) properties, HMO's, Expats, foreign nationals, Trading Limited companies, SPVs and Holiday lets
· Previous experience holding an underwriting mandate, or the capability to progress toward one
